Hello, I was wondering what the general concensus was on the best design for speed shooting, I was thinking between lyman 452460 and rcbs 45-201-kt any thoughts? which do you think would be the most reliable?

IIRC, the RCBS has a longer nose and should be more reliable in feeding. The RCBS is close to the H&G 068/069 bullet. The 460 has more contact area in the rifling.
Both bullets are widely used in NRA Bullseye pistol.

Depends on which one your gun likes better. My Kimber has never failed to feed the 452460, consequently I have never gotten another ~200 grain SWC mold for the .45 ACP.

I shoot some kind of action pistol match nearly every weekend......

With hundreds of different people from Indianapolis to Nashville......Ashland to Paducah.....

I know of three others who cast their own boolits. One shoots a 40 cal. TC and the other two shoot H&G 68.

Pick one and see if it works for you.

The short nose on the 452460 can cause feeding problems.....same with the wide meplat on the RCBS.

452374 or RCBS 45-230-RN will come as close to 100% reliability as you're likely to get.

Just as info, you can also go to the The Boolit Exchange (http://castboolits.gunloads.com/forumdisplay.php?49-The-Boolit-Exchange) and ask for a few boolits of pretty much whatever type you need so you can test them and see how they feed with your particular weapon. I have found the guys on this forum to be generous beyond measure when it comes to helping a new caster out.

Haven't shot action stuff for years now but when I did, I used a TC design of 230 gr from a NEI mold. Still shoot it today because it is very reliable and accurate from my guns. The Lee 230 TC also seems to be as good.

ANY SWC can be problematic in any gun so a RN or TC would be my choice for 100% reliabilty. The 200gr LTC from MAgma is my do anything in any gun for action shooting, it has never baubled in any gun. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v703/fredj338/45200TCPB.jpg

I haven't had my Mihec 452-200 mould long but it's trunicated cone, 68 style, boolit has run in at least five 1911s without a hiccup so far.

For action and steel shooting I go with 6up molds for casting lots of boolits and I also try to get molds that do not uses so much lead. In 9mm thats a Lee 120gr TC. In 40cal thats the Lee 175 Gr TC. In 45 I am split between the Lee 200SWC and the Lee 230TC. The TC drop the boolits the fastest and I can make huge quanities of them fast.
The 200swc also is very accurate in my Kimber 1911, the 230TC I don't have enough experance except to say it can empty a lead pot fast.
