I just got started in casting, and Saturday got to go to the range to try out my first cast bullets. I got my lead from screwbolts. I just put the ingots in the pot, fluxed with sawdust, and started pouring... I used a Lee 200 grain .452, and pan lubed with beeswax, and olive oil lube. I was really pleased with the results. I shot close to 200 rounds through my 1911 with absolutely no signs of leading. I had concerns of the lead being a bit soft, but no worries now.

I never shot my 45acp much because of the cost of projectiles have went crazy over the last decade, but I can tell you, she's going to get a work out now. I really have enjoyed my new hobby. It is very satisfying.

Now it's the time to graduate to the next level, get a 9mmP. Joking. Congrats on your success.

I've got a 9mm, and have seen lots of threads with leading occuring, but haven't gotten a mold yet. Wonder how my Sig sauer will like cast??

Why did you think the lead might be to soft?

Forgive my ignorance, but what are screwbolts?

One of my nines is a P226 and it runs just fine with cast. Lee 356-120-TC boolits sized to .3575 with Tac#1 lube on top of 4.2gn HP38. Use this load at own risk. Both of my Lee 6 cavity molds drop at .359 so the listed size is a minimum I guess.

because it is reclaimed factory boolit lead.
I told y'all it had some antimony in it.

Well duh, dont I feel like an obama voter... (I was going to say I feel like an idiot, but...)

I thought there was some new source of scrap lead for us to be scrounging.

I just got my box-o-lead from screwbolts a couple days ago (and boy, is that mailman hot!). Haven't had a chance to melt/cast any yet, but good communication and fast shipping with screwbolts...
