Has anyone used the heating element from a Lyman 4500 lubrisizer to make a universal heater? Seeing as the universal heaters are not available I was thinking of buying a replacement element and putting it in a piece of aluminum and making it fit a RCBS LAMII. Actually if you had multiple lubersizers you could make up blocks for each and just move the element as needed.

Yeah, I have a base 6"x3" for my star that uses a lyman cartridge, it works OK for low temp lube, but I also so have a larger one (6"x6") that has a bullet feeder on it that the lyman won't get hot enough.
IIRC the lyman is ~ 40 watt.
On Ebay right now are cheap (~$5) cartridge heaters in the 200 - 300 watt range. I would recommend one of those.

I got a unie. heater from Midway for my 450 lyman and it is set up for different sizers and I have no problem with it since I got it . You can check there is you like. The 450 dose not come with a heater.

I just check a Lyman catalog and the universal heater fits Lyman, RCBS, SAECO, and Star.

The last time I checked Midway and others they were on B.O. so that's why I was moving in that direction. It's hard to believe that the panic crowd depleted the supply of these as well.

Thanks, Longone

I went and reread the Lyman catalog and it states "Do not confuse with 4500 heating element", Please make sure what lube sizer you have.

It's what I use for my star and rcbs, both with a pid controller.

another great idea! i am just finishing up my pid for the Lee drip-o-matic... what is your set temp for heating up the lube, and where do you place the TC probe?

My probe on my star is a washer style under the mounting bolt. On my rcbs I used a screw in style and mounted it to the aluminum block. Temp with car red is 110-120.

i just use a cylinder heater in a aluminum block and a light dimmer to control the heat

That's exactly what I do there luckydawg13, I bought my cartridge off ebay for $5.00 and made my heater for under $15.00. Mine is 300 watt and will run ballisti cast hard blue out in the floor if you turn it up much. I barely turn mine on to get good flow, I use air pressure so that makes a difference too.
