I am sure that the factory is running at 100% capacity and then some. Quality is bound to suffer when quantity goes up.
I know that there is an acceptable amount of rejects in plinking .22 LR ammo.

Winchester has been going downhill since about 1997. I remember seeing a letter at my dealer that had a series of questions to dealers about how far QC could be lowered and still be able for the masses be happy.

I seem to find more Win. brass that is junk than others. I get a lot of free range brass where I am at. I am always picking up junk shells on the ground. 9 out 10 times it is Win.

And don't shoot that one. Pressure will be very high. Glocks were known to blow with the 40 S&W with the bullet set back into the case. Just read that in the new Handloader mag. (I think)

I've seen the same thing, and this was way before the panic. Had two in a box like that, and one where the bullet had a giant gouge in the side.

Sadly this is what happens when the greatest gun salesman ever in history has the reins. QC is lowered to produce a product to keep up with the demand.

Obama should have never won the Nobel Peace Prize as he has done nothing that is even close to the many men and women who far more deserve it. He flat out won on skin color and a Nation in a depression that needed a way out. Here comes the man with the Silver Tongue that knew exactly what, when, and how to say the things that the masses wanted to hear.
He how ever should receive not one but two salesman of the century awards from the arms and munitions factories. Later David

That is just spiffy! Have 1000+ of those still unopened. Wonder how many oopsies are in those boxes? Will have to be extra vigilant when/if I ever shoot those!

while i never had any bullets seated to deep like yours, i have seen a ton of crimp on all the rounds. same with the box of 45acp, i've never seen so much crimp on a 45!

that being said they all shot just fine.

You can pull the bullet out slightly with a centrifical hammer style bullet puller with light taps, then re-seat it and taper crimp it back in place. I've had to do that on a few that I seated to deep by accident.

I wonder if a phone call would get you a free box of ammo?

Even the big boys have an Oops every now and then. Makes me wonder if quality standards are being lowered, or if quantities have gone up and there are just more getting out. I dont buy much factory ammo except .22lr, but I seem to be seeing more incidents like this. Not a good sign.

Email them the picture with the ID numbers off the box . I hope they give a better response that Remington did to me around 2002 the guy i talked to acted very unconcerned with their quality problems!

now that it has been mentioned, i will email them for sure.
i dont shoot much factory ammo these days "these were free :) " but i do expect more from them then this.
i would never fire a round such as that one as i like my hand's face and firearms.
but a free box of ammo might be possible :)

If it was free, maybe they were someones reloads.
I pull down all free ammo, save brass and bullets, dump the rest.

Don't get your hopes up on getting any response from an email.

Believe it was here that someone posted a picture of a rifle round with the bullet seated backwards! Factory box as well.
Call, then offer to email the person on the phone a picture of that round. Along with the lot number from the box. Be polite, but insistent as to getting satisfactory results.

Winchester has had issues the last few years. From flawed target ammo to flawed top of the self defense ammo. They were having union issues and last I heard were still in the process of moving some if not all the production down south. I have stopped buying anything Winchester for now because I have been burned with a crushed round and over crimped and undersized bullets. At $33 per 50 for FMJ range ammo it should all be flawless.

It would be nice if they would post an e-mail address so you can easily send them pictures of their junk ammo.

Hate to hear that, WW has long been one of my favorite headstamps for .38spl and .45acp, especially when it's once-fired and free. OTOH my newest WW brass is over a year old, much of it is old enough to vote.
