Because I like reading about the deals others find, and love seeing the pics of the scores, I figured I would post mine. Came across a man getting out of the sport last month and bought a few things. Here's what I kept for myself. You can definitely see that the Marlin has seen many days in the woods, as it has plenty of character in the stock, which I like. It's a 1948 model 36RC in .30-30 with a Lyman #56 rear site. It looks like probably one of the last square bolts since the round bolts started in '48, but this one has a '48 serial number. It needed some cleanup work, the surface rust cleaned up well, and the only spot worse that that was a spot about the size of half a dime on the lever that has some bubble to it. The bore is great, and it shoots great. I picked it up for $150.

The Ruger is a 1969 Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag. Came with the holster, and didn't have much more than holster wear over the years from the looks of it. This one I bought as part of a package along with a Vintage Wingmaster, after selling that to a buddy put the price of the Blackhawk at $0. :D

30-30 or 35 Remington? Nice pickup. Can't have my (my Dad's) early 50's Marlin 30-30 or my early 70's SBH! Bought that one new, along with the Convertible Single Six.

It's a .30-30. I've only got to take it out once so far, but was very happy with the results.

Yes TheCelt it's a 36. One of the last from the looks of it.

I agree fatelk, some people have said I could replace the stock, and my response was why would I want to?

Good deal! I am currently looking for a gun just like that. I want to get into casting and shooting for the lever action 30-30 without spending too much money.

Nice score there. You won't mind taking them out if they have a little "character" already :)

Most of mine say "BEEN THERE DONE THAT".

They are showing their TRUE character.

I only wish they could tell their real life story.[smilie=1:

NOT beaters, just fine guns with use. Good buys.
Make them sit up and talk.

I agree Bill. I have said the same thing about these. If only they could talk.

The 2 I would like to hear from are the 1911 made in 1913 and it looks like it has definitely BEEN THERE. The checkering is completely worn off of the left grip.

The other one is a Winchester 94 rifle in 38-55 that my GRANDFATHER bought new in about 1905. Then he moved to TEXAS and later served in the RANGERS. At the time of his death at age 93 he was still carrying 8 BOOLITS he COLLECTED in the rangers.

If I could only sit around a camp fire and listen to their stories I just might be able to give RECLUSE a run for the money.:bigsmyl2:

I was cruising the listings in GunBroker and came upon an older Marlin 336, but under a store brand stamp. The seller disclosed a "couple of scratches in the stock." as a liability or damage. They also showed a photo of the 4 parallel and roughly equal length cuts to the underside of the walnut stock just aft of the pistol grip. I didn't see "damage", I saw HISTORY! You and I both know there was meat hanging in camp for every one of those cuts! Alas if that old girl could tell the stories of wet red and black checkered wool coats, campfire tall tales and shots taken or wisely passed by.

I almost bid on her just so I could have the honor of adding another notch or two to that line of cuts! But I already own one or two too many lever .30-30s...
