Does anyone have any information on Herters molds. I bought a couple today and they appear to be quality molds, I,m curious about the history or who actually manufactured the molds for the Herters Company. One of them looks like a .35?cal. roundnose rifle boolit. CJ.

Curly:

Try "The Herter's Guy" at <Herters@netins.net>. He is more into the Herters tools, but should have info on the moulds, too.

That isn't a website, it's an e-mail address off his business card.

Thanks and I'll shoot him an e-mail today. One of the molds is stamped 357156 and appears to be a non-gaschecked version of the Thompson 358156 mold. The other is stamped 35200 and I'm betting it is a .35 cal./200 grain rifle bullet. The remaining one is a wadcutter and looks like the Lyman 358495 version. The Thompson design w/o the gascheck has me intrigued and I'll cast some and see if there is any difference in accuracy. CJ.

The earliest Herters had a funky labeling system like you mention (35200). I don't know for sure who made them. However, the ones that are numbered like the Lyman are Lymans.
