There's something oddly satisfying about going to the range with an AR15 and a Rolling Block

Sure beats tranquilizers all to heck! One of the best stress relievers I know! :Fire:

littlegirl seems to find the 86 a nice companion to her AR.
something wrong with her.

Shoulders still sore from 3 days ago, shooting the 45-70. Of course they were hot loads, and after 40 rounds of medium hot rounds then 10 rounds of hot loads....well I'm sore...but boy did i have a sh*t eating grin on my face.
I'm glad they were shot with my Marlin, my Browning might of made me cry!!

Newer thunk of it that way.
My "newest" rifles are from '72 and thus 40yrs+ old, and the oldest from 1867.
As to cardridges i think the 44MAG is the newest i shoot (from '55).

Bloodlines. :)

It's just as likely for me to pull out my Uberti Henry replica in .44-40 after a session with the AR.
I call it being diverse.

I went to the range last week with my bfr and my contender, both chambered in the 45 70. I learned something that day. An all polymer contender with a 21 in tapered barrel and 26g of 2400 under a 350g boolit, HURTS. I fired probably 30 or 40 rounds and I was Done. Shoulder is still bruised. I think I will drop the loads a bit for that gun and get a shoulder pad as well. I let someone else shoot it and they fired 2 rounds and were done. I still love the old straight walled heavy lead slingers. I sold my ar15 and bought the bfr. I almost don't even shoot my auto's anymore, revolvers or single shots only.

I normally load 24.8grs under a 435gr boolit with a tuft of Dacron for hunting, and without it for the girl to play around with.
50 rounds ain't too bad in a session but it isn't a bench rest rifle either.

Loaded up 56.7 gr of Varget behind a 300gr. Shot maybe 40. Found out my Marlin really like this load. Excellent groups for 50yrds.
Then I threw 10 rounds down range of H4198 at 60gr. 10 rounds and the last 5 were brutal

I'm a wuss. When I first started trying to find 45-70 cast loads for my Marlin, I could get maybe 20 rounds out of it off the bench and then my shoulder would start crying "Foul!" Shooting it upright never bothered me, but it was just brutal when I snuggled in. Took weeks to get through those original test loads. So I took off the original Marlin butt plate and added a Limbsaver pad. My clavicle thanked me.

I have only shot the rolling block here and there. Yesterday was 500 grain cast on top of eitherPyrodex or FFFG black powder. Promising results from the former, latter requiring much work

I was expecting recoil to be heavier.

If you think that's fun try stepping up to the handgun firing line at a public range between a wondernine and a forty short & weak with a pair of SAA replicas in 45 Colt. It gets better when I load them with cartridges filled with real lead and real BP. Gets kinda quiet after the first boom and cloud of blue smoke. Even the RSO's enjoy the smell of real BP. I generally leave my targets up, let the newbies see what an old fat guy with a real gun can do.

My last range trip included a flintlock longrifle and an AR- boths ends of the rifle technology spectrum. I enjoy shooting guns on both ends of the spectrum and anything in between. Variety...
