The post-op infection and complications have reached the point to where the doc is checking me in the emergency room after lunch. More CT scans, labs and probably another surgery.

Will keep you posted.

Thanks for the prayers and well-wishes. Got a crack staff of nurses here, who as y'all know, are like the NCOs of hospitals--they do the heavy lifting and real running of things.

Rough day in the ER yesterday. Spent almost eight hours trying to get stabilized and get the fever down the pain tolerable. I do not like morphine--scares me--but had no choice, or say, in the matter.

Finally got moved to a room and the doc came in around 9:00 and informed me that one part of the "cure" was to starve me, beginning at midnight. That news did not make me happy. Said he'd see me early in the morning and then put me on a regular diet.

By late this morning, I still hadn't seen or heard from the doc and was feeling like absolute obama and called up the charge nurse and informed her that I would, by God, have some pudding or a few small pieces of fruit or whatever because they starved me the last time and I would be damned/pelosi'd if they did it again.

So now I've got a whole tray full of food and puddings and fruit bowls (no chili or bbq, damn it) to snack on.

The doc just came by and said the white blood cell counts were looking favorable and encouraged me to continue getting up and taking my pole and monitor and IV contraptions for walks around the post-op floor.

So that's about the size of things now.

Again, thanks for the well-wishes and prayers. They do work, you know.

Sounds like you are on the rebound, keep fighting.

Bill

Recluse
03-17-2013, 04:59 PM
Had a bad night and morning, but around 1:00, the majority of the fever broke. It's still trying to rebound but so far we're fighting it back. I'm able to double the amount of time between the dilaudid doses and for the first time in almost 24 hours, was able to get up, take a shower, then go take my tube-pole for a long walk all over the first floor of the hospital.

The vampire came in just after 1:00 and sucked some blood. What she didn't swallow, she sent to the lab for a white blood cell analysis.

Tipping point will be Monday sometime in the a.m. when I have another CT scan done. If the antibiotics and other chemicals they are bombarding this abscess with are beating it back and reducing it in size, then the treatment will continue. If not, then the radiologists goes in with his big needles and camera and starts literally draining and sucking the abscess out.

Hey Are you getting pics of the nurses YOU Know you want to.

You should get one with you chasing the nurses around, It will help i tell you.

Also If you catch a nurse worst thing that can happen is you all laugh and smile and before you know it the whole hospital deal will be over and you will be back in the pilot seat again.

I hope it all goes well for you. Go ahead make the nurses laugh it will be worth it.

Take care and dont slip.

I hope you get better. It isn't unusual to get an abscess like that after a ruptured appendix.

Recluse
03-18-2013, 06:29 PM
Had another tough night and was scheduled for another CT scan in the early a.m. Ended up not happening until 2:15 p.m.

Hospitals are already so messed up now thanks to endless government regulations and requirement, I don't want to even imagine how bad they will be when Obamacare gets locked in 100%.

My abscess did not shrink. It enlarged. I go NPO (nothing by mouth) again after midnight so that the radiologists can go in and physically attack it, spear it, drain what they can and put a tube in my side. Looking at several more days here at minimum. They've upped the pain management program schedule and I'm living on IVs and antibiotics.

Amigo, you have my greatest sympathy.

I spent several months in hospital last year, and several surgeries gave me a close acquaintance with pain, bureaucracy, and the medical establishment.

It's almost as if they plan all the routine BS just to aggravate the patient and distract him from the REAL issues at hand.

I sleep poorly, and much of my ceiling-watching time finds me thinking of you in that hospital, and hoping for the best-possible outcome. Your updates are much-appreciated, and you must know that there are THOUSANDS of us here at CB who are pulling for you.

I was hoping they'd kick you out today. Hang tough, hospitals are places where you go in with one issue and get treated for a couple more before you can escape. Make sure everyone coming in that door washes or sanitizes their hands, amazing how often that doesn't happen. MD's can be the worst, trust me.
Hopefully the road to recovery starts tomorrow. Won't be fun but you'll get thru it.
