Last evening my wife got her first bear!!! Nice 3-4 year old boar. Took him dead center. She used an Eddie Bauer special edition. Looks like about 250 lbs, great condition for this time of year. Fruit hasn't really gotten ready for the final fattening. He would have been heavier a little later.

Should only cost about $950 to fix the explorer.

Ouch on the collision. Sounds like she gets to keep the bear at least.
Got pics yet?

Heavy projectiles at moderate speeds will win every time

Nope, can't keep the bear. Either the county crew hauls it to the dump (if it's in the roadway) or it sits and rots or is small critter food, WA state law.

I didn't mention she's hell on deer. Got at least 10 at around $15,00 in car damage...and counting.

Bummer, Gus. Hitting a bear, is like hitting a hog, or a bowling ball. Solid mass!

I was totally surpised at the lack of damage considering a 50mph hit. (came around a curve, late evening and black bear, didn't even hit the brakes it was so sudden). She said it was a VERY solid feeling hit. The wheels did not go over it.

Wiped out the bumper on the right side. Small kink in the right fender (VERY slight). That's all that's visible. No grille or headlight damage at all. It must have started to run and was low when they met. I did have to pry and cut the bumper so she could drive it.

Lucky on the damage. When I lived in Kansas, I hit a rooster pheasant. It did more damage than the deer I hit. Broke out the grill, the bug guard and put a kink in the hood on its way to smashing the windshield. The deer put a kink in the bumper.

I saw the results of a head butting contest between a grown hog and a Tonka pick-up. The hog died and the truck was totaled.

If I might ask, where was she at when she hit the bear?

Con10der, I don't think you read the first part of the topic. Racking up posts, are we?
