So I have a extra ruger 10/22 stock and I would like to know how to go about cutting it down to properly fit my daughters grip . This will be twice as nice because I also have twin boys who will eventually use this as well. I'm pretty good with tools so that's not a problem but just trying to see if anyone has done this or has any good pointers. She's excited to go shooting with daddy but can't till she gets the rules down first. And has a stock to fit. I should mention this is only going to be for target practice and bench shooting.

Not sure how you would go about cutting down then re-inletting that funny little recoil plate. Iffn it were me, i would cut it off and replace the plate with a small size pad. Just me, though.

I'd just copy the youth stock

This is a length of pull chart from the NRA Gunsmithing book; article is "Building a boys rifle"

I recently used the info to cut down a donated Anschutz 1400 for a scout troop to use.

Hope it helps.

I did it the easy way... removed the walnut stock and put it in the box.

I then took a birch stock (free) and used a chop saw to cut it to length.

Sanded the edges, and the wife used her woodburner to "checker" the "buttplate".

Now that he is bigger, it wears the walnut stock again.

PM me if you want a free fullsize stock to go back on it someday. (you may want to keep the youth size forever, just to have one)

put some of that blue painters tape around the stock where you intend to cut. This will help keep the stock from chipping on the edge. You can buy a cheap pad from brownells or brown precision, these are black foam like hypalon. Just glue it on and you can easily sand it down to match the stock. Leave the blue tape on so when you sand you dont mess the finish up on the stock.

I think this guy has a stock already sized for what you are looking for.

we have cut the stocks down on several of our 4h program air rifles then just put the but plate back on and sand to fit

you could just cut then put this on and it would look like my deluxe stock kind of , then as they grow make yourself a hard wood spacer(s) to put the length back on
