Well, I got a late graduation gift. A 51 Navy, 36 cal. From 45nut and I about flipped out. I was super excited. (Yes that's a castboolits teddy bear I got for a birthday a while ago)

I was super excited then dad told me it meant I had to cast the balls for it myself and by hand. Dont like burning myself so much.

But I did it, without even burning myself.
Then dad started taking pictures..

Happy belated graduation! Those BP pistols are a hoot to shoot and you wind up going through a lot of roundballs, so keep on casting!

The round ball is a very good place to begin hand casting. Let us know how they shoot.

olvern I dont think I need any other form of gun really, dad has me pretty well off in that category :)
Dlctex nope, haven't shot it yet, waiting for summer,
Dad, I still think you took the picture like that on purpose, subliminal bragging.

What giant super efficient dula spout pot? Just in case you needed confirmation, yes, those pics suck. Focusing can make a difference, you know! :)
So show us a pic of this magical pot please.

you can see it on the left on the bottom picture.
those are a set of 6" dial calipers sitting underneath it on the mold holder/box.
it's just a magma pot i built a stand and stuff for.
you can just see the top of the other one behind dawn in the same picture.

My first casting ever was for my 1851 cap&ball except mines in .44 one of the funnest handguns ever to shoot. Didn't have a lead pot back then so me and a friend used his moms stove top to melt the lead and used old spoons for ladles. If his mom would have came home early and caught us I probably wouldn't be alive to type this. LOL FB

Cnsidering the present supply situations, a word about wads.
Not necessary, but do seem to help the shooting and clean up. Oxyoke makes some fine ones. but you can soak a piece of felt in a mix of 50/50 beeswax and olive oil, then use a punch to cut the wads out.
And a little lube on top of the cylinders, after seating the balls seems to help as well.

thanks for the reminder oldewolf,i have some either 44 or 45 cal oxyokes we should be able to trim to size.
I was gonna make up a mix of b-wax and Crisco for the over lube, but had forgot about using an under wad.

You're welcome. :)
Having tried things like trimming small round items in the past, it might be easier to make them in the size you want. :)
It hits 114 here in summertime, and I am tired of the odor of rancid crisco. I am going to try beeswax and olive oil for over the ball.
Hasve fun with the c&b, R5LG. As mentioned, everyone will want to see what is making the stinky smoke. And if anyone tries to say that percussion is just a toy, remember that <IIRC> both Wild Bill Hicock and Doc Haliday both used .36 cal percussion revolvers to put how many folks under the sod? :D
