Now if he was here today looking over current trends what would he have to say?

He'd be down in Washington blowing cigar smoke in the faces of legislators.

I had the honor of meeting and briefly chatting with Elmer at a dealers dinner put on by the old Williams gunsight family back in the mid `60s. That cigar was always either in his mug or in his fingers when talking to you. He regaled us for almost 2 hours with stories about hunts all over the world. I had an empty beer can that he drained without stopping and signed for me, lost somewhere in my many movings. A real character and gentleman in a large stetson.Robert

You know Ken...Elmer in his old age was going to the big LA show with some friends. When the reached Cailf. border he removed his gun and put it in the trunk. They asked him why and he answered...I don't agree with their laws but I will obey them......this is from the book...The Other Side of Elmer Keith. I pretty much see it now as we're going to have to start disobeying laws now and draw the line....or we lose everything.

More than once I've fantasized about Uncle Elmer as a member of this forum. Anyone who has read his books will agree that he had some ideas that some of us are still working with decades later. Anyone who met him will agree that he would keep the mods busy.
Happy Birthday, Elmer.

I'm not absolutly sure you could print what he might think if he was here today. But he was somewhat elaquent if not colorful when he had to be.
