In an article on Fox News (http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2013/03/06/polaris-introducing-flat-proof-airless-tires-next-year/) about the latest technology being applied on Polaris tires, the article states ".....Engineers shot test tires with 50-caliber rounds from an AK-47....."

Man, this technology is movin' way too fast for this ol' man to keep up with. I didn't know AKs came in .50 caliber.

Those are the ones used to take down air planes and derail trains like I keep hearing about.

All you need is a 1/2" drill bit and you can make a 50cal AK47. If you use a 3/4" bit you can only load "cop killer" bullets.

This is the 2nd inaccurate gun story I have read in the last 1o minutes.

A new record !

I'm glad that I'm not the only one to have seen that and guffawed! "The engineers shot it with a 50 caliber AK47." Uh Oh! Another reporter opening his pen to show us how ignorant he is.

The scary thing is that it is Fox news. Not good.

You can always count on the media to get the facts wrong.

Somebody must have read this. No mention of an AK in the article now.

Aren't reporters just actors now? The blonder and cuter the higher the ratings?

Even Fox screws the pooch every now and then- especially on guns. I feel they at least support my 2nd Amendment rights most of the time.

I noticed the second biggest killer in that chart was drunken driving (which also accounts for nearly half of the auto accident number) so maybe they need to pass laws totally banning drinking and driving,,,,,err wait a second, didn't they do that already?

I bet you could modify an AK47 to 50 Beowulf......you would still have an AK though.

There looks to be one. A very talented machinist/gunbuilder is scaling up the AK design (PSL or whichever variant shot the 8mm Mauser cartridge) to 50 BMG. He's gonna call it the AK-57. Check the Weapons Guild Forums.

How bout a 72 cal AK, also known as a Saiga 12? A 20 round drum of slugs or buck does a number on the junk blazer behind the barn.

I bet you could modify an AK47 to 50 Beowulf...

If I ever get time to do the final assembly, I have one in .50 Beowulf. Yugo receiver and front trunnion, Polish .223 magazine.

...you would still have an AK though.

Mongo *like* AK-47!
