I have 3 lyman moulds I picked up and was wondering if any of these might be usuable for a 7.62x39 loading.
They are

311539
311466
311467

The bottom 2 seem a littl heavy but cant hurt to ask!

Doc,

311539 is not in any of my references, what boolit is that? Or did you by chance mean 311359 (115gr spire point GC)??

If you DID mean 311359, it looks like it might be a good 7.62X39 boolit, assuming it casts fat enough for your barrel.

311466 might work for you as well, I have read of guys using 150ish grain boolits in the X39. 311467 would be too heavy for normal loads in that size of a case, in my opinion. However, I have read of guys loading boolits up to 200 or so grains in the 7.62X39 for subsonic loads, a search here on the board may turn something up if that interests you.

Hope this helps.

If you read the sticky here on the 7.62 X 39, you'll see that C.E. Harris designed a 155 gr boolit mould for Lee with the 7.62 X 39 in mind

dr 0, Before we can offer sound advice, it would help to know whether your 7.62 x 39 is a bolt action rifle , AK-47 or SKS and its bore dimension. You'll need to slug the bore at the very least. If you have an American made, e.g., Ruger, bolt action, #s311466 & -467 may be viable, as its bore is nominally .308" and those molds cast .311" CB's in theory (using Ly. #2 alloy). If you've got the AK-47 or SKS, the bore will be larger, perhaps so much so that none of the CB's you or others mentioned will fit. On the other hand, since you have the molds, why not cast some and try them in your rifle?

311466 is a great shooter in my NEF Handi-rifle. Gianni.

I have tested several lyman bullets in my Yugo SKS and the only design and weight that worked well was 311466. Beagled to cast at .313, sized to .313. shoots 2-3 moa.

I thought an SKS/AK would clog the gas tube with cast. I have both, and was thinking how to cast for one or the other. Nifty.
