Got all the way to the store and couldn't
remember what I went for.

I am looking for the rubber you use to make a mold out of!!
Want to make a couple of butt plates for 22 rifles and spent over an hour at the store trying to remember what it is called.

If anyone knows jog my memory for me will ya?

Liquid latex - but...
There are dozens of products on the market and names are all over the dictionary.
Then there are the silicone molding compounds.
Sorry I can't offer one name and product.

I use a 2 part mix silicone that you knead together and have had no problems with it. epoxyjewellry.com

The material used to make a mold depends on what you will be molding in it so it will hold up and not stick together. Tell us more about your project and what you want to do and we can give more specific answers.

I've used the pint can stuff from the hobby store called "Rubb-r-Mold" or however they spell it. Thick liquid latex, pink colored and designed to be wither poured around the model or painted in multiple layers. It's in the plaster casting section. You're probably back home now, though, eh?
