Sig P220 Mold Rec

I want to cast, but want to be sure the mold I buy will make bullets that work in my gun. I hear that Sig P220 has serious problems cycling wad cutters. What mold is sure to work in a Sig P220?

I had no problem with the Mihec clone of H&G #68.

Lyman .452374 and the Lee TC should work, especially the Lyman. I don't think the Lyman .452488 would function reliably.

I just cast my first for my P220. Its a LBT 240 grain SWC. I have not shot them yet, but running it manual they feed ok.
I had a WFN LBT but it would hang on the feed ramp

Don't know about the 220, but most .45 ACP pistols will do very well with the H&G 68.

I've heard it said that the 220 doesnt like SWCs as well. My own example has no issues with H&G 68 clones or even the 185 pointy Lee. May have to play with the OAL a bit to get it to work in your gun, but I think you will be suprised if you give it a try. Having said that, the lee 230 2r in a 6 cavity is an inexpensive mold that produces boolits that will work in any 45 I've ever tried.

My experience is twentyfive years ago, but one of my strikers had a 220 that ate generic bought from a gunshow 200 grain SWC's with impunity. I do not know for sure what boolit was used; but I think it was probably the Lyman 452460, due to the very short nose that I remember.

Personally, I would bet on a SIG 220 feeding SWC's better than a non throated 1911.

I use a Lee 452-228-1R mold. I had a few problems early on with some rounds not completely chambering in my 220 until I started seating my boolits deeper in the case. No problems since.

I have used Missouri bullet's 200 grain SWC without problem, as well.

Don't know where you heard that, but all three 220's that I have shot, including mine, all shoot H&G 68's just fine. Mine has shot many hundreds of the Lee 200 grain SWC-tl as well with out bobble. I have not tried it with any of the 185 grain cast SWC's, which may be problematical, but the 200 grain SWC's, H&G 68, Lee 45-200SWCTL and Lyman 452-460 all work fine in my gun. In fact, My p-220 is probably the least finicky 45 Auto I have ever owned.

I've been shooting the Lee 6-Cavity Bullet Mold 452-200-RF from my P220's regularly and no issues whatsoever, I'm even tumble lubing them now

I shoot the Lee 2-cav 230 gr TC. Does great! I tumble lube them almost exclusively and it isn't the TL model.

I use 4 to 5 gr of red dot. 4 is a lot milder obviously, 5 has a bit of pep.

I need some 7 round mags... I only have 2 and one is an aftermarket that isn't very reliable with anything, the other is 100%. It's a West German model with the heel mag release and finding mags is hard! Especially for less than $50 each.

Stay away from the Lyman 452460. It won't feed reliably in mine, nose too short, but a great bullet in guns that will feed it. The 452630 works just fine if seated just a few thousanths longer than Lyman's suggested OAL.

Also, my barrel stays cleaner when I size to 0.453".

See if you can try some magazines with the American style catch, they may work with a bit of fitting. The mag bodies are the same, just a different style of catch.

The owner of the previously mentioned 220 had the opposite problem in 1988, the only mags we could find were the heel catch type. They worked fine after cutting a notch for the Browning style release, but i don't remember what the floorplate looked like.

It may work, it may not.

I went with an Accurate 45-230-F for use in multiple 1911's. It's basically a round nose hardball profile with the tip chopped off and a very slight wadcutter shoulder. From the side, it looks like the modern Hydra-Shok, SXT, HST, Gold Dot, etc... I wanted something that fed like hardball but hit like a Keith SWC - this seems to be a good compromise.
