Tried posting in the lead section but never really got an answer. was casting yesterday and keep getting a yellow residue forming .It started at about 700 degrees at 750 degrees it turned to liquid and looked like honey poured on top of the lead. fluxing will remove it but it instantly starts forming again. any ideas what it is.

If I have it correct it is over heated tin. 60/40 solder will turn that color too when over heated.

I have seen tin turn color but will it form a liquid on top?

Heat cuases oxide and tin gives off that yellow stuff. Fluxing will pu it back togather but it is a sign of temp too high. 650 is a good place for your temp.

thanks for the input. not sure whether my Thermometer is off or the use of scrap lead . I have had bad results under 700 degrees so I usually cast between 700 and 750 degrees. Or being new to casting it is possible I do not know what I am doing.

Your temperature of 700 - 750F is just right, 650F will be too cool.
