Is 420 degrees hot enough ?

I bought an oven thermometer and tested the soon to be mine old toaster oven. Set at 450, (the max temp for the unit,) it reached 420 in about 5 - 10 minutes and held that temperature for an hour, at which point I decided that was as hot as it gets and ended the test.

From what I read, that should be hot enough. Remember I am not looking for the maximum hardness possible, just something noticably harder than my ww/2% tin alloy.

Pat,

It's all in the quench. The faster you can make that happen, the harder you will get. Otherwise you need more temp from the oven. But if you move like chain lightening, you will have hard bullets.
