Hi All,
I guess first I should say Hi to all the old Shooters guys. I had lots of problems getting on the old Aimoo site & thought everyone had quit & then got real busy in my life & now here I am back again. It's good to see everyone still at it. I don't have much time this year, all good stuff but just real busy.
"Busted Out" of the work, eat, sleep cycle enough to go test out some M-1 loads I made up.
Found out that H-4227 gives great results @ 12.5gr but won't function the gun with 11.5 gr. and a Lachmiller version of the Lyman 311359. Also found that 11.5 gr. of Alliant 2400 gave bad results (smoky and shots all over the paper). Got super good results with 12.5gr. H-4227 again and the Lee 120 round nose. Shot only 100 rounds as it got too hot & had to get back to my roof project. I'm thinking maybe the long seating of 1.675 might have lowered the pressure too much on the 2400 load as I was getting real good results with the bullet I was using with H-4227. I know the charge range with that Carbine round is a narrow band between non-functioning & a dangerous load so have been leaning to the low-end side of loading with it.
Just wondering if there are any other powders out there which work any better than H-4227 or at least as good. Would like to pick up some WC820 at the next gun show they have around here but if it's anything like my experience with the 2400, not interested. Fun gun to shoot tho and I was surprised at how well it handles the cast. No leading yet with the thing.

.............Hello Newtire. It's great to see another old face show up. Re: WC820, that was THE gov'ment powder for the 30 Carb. Can't go worng with it in that application. Makes a good mag pistol powder, and several have used it in reduced cast rifle loads from the 223 to the 45-70. I guess it plays with others very nicely!

Newtire,
My M1 Carbine plinking load is 12 gr. of H110 and the Lyman 311410. Small rifle primer. Give it a try if you want. H110 meters really nicely.
best regards,
brian
