I shoot a lyman .45 200gr. SWC boolet in my 45 acp's. As most of you know these have two lube grooves, and I have always lubed both of them. I have seen that some lube only the bottom lube groove. Is this enough lube to do it's job? If so, that's great,I can the stretch my lube twice as far. Thanks!!

I was also wondering about lube amount. i have just started molding 230 grain RN boolits for my XD. The resizer came with "liquid alox bullet Lube". Directions said to put bullets into bowl and add lube, swirl around until they are coated. Should I add lube to fill the grooves or just to coat the bullets? I have shot some (abt. 100) modest loads and notice very little lead fouling. I am not filling the grooves, just coating them. Is the amount of lube more critical for heavier loads or should i be filling up the grooves?

Most will say that, with LLA, less is better. Only a light coat needed.

I agree with whisler, don't use too much. In my post I was referring to using a Lyman 450 sizer, but when I tumble lube my 9mm boolits I just give a light coat, works well. You can try a heavy coat on a hundred or two and it just may work great for your load and gun, in this hobby you never know until you try.

i had that lyman 45 mold and it was more accurate with only the bottom groove filled.
same as the 358091.

I only lube the bottom groove. Seems to shoot just as good, no lead in the barrel and I can lube twice as many.

Even with .38 wadcutters with the skinny lube gruves, I only lube one. It's always been
enough. With 45's - only one gruv gets lubed. You'll see. enjoy Mike

And it dries faster and less gummy.

next batch I size and lube I will try one groove. I like the fact I can stretch the lube twice as far. Thanks for the help!!

My experience has been that one will find that often one lube groove filling will result in more accurate ammunition. Let your gun be the guide, try it both ways and see if one is more accurate and you still have sufficient lube to preclude leading. I know that in many Loverin stype/style boolits in rifles, lubing only the botom 2 grooves will give one better accuracy.
