The other day at the range, among others, I shot my 1895 Chilean Mauser. The trigger, which had been slicked by me in 1968, pulled like a rusty gate hinge. this rifle had not seen the light of day in two years. Part of my usual cleaning drill is to add a drop of oil to the exposed part of the sear, so I got the dipstick out of the pickup and added a little dirty motor oil. That was good enough to get me through the day. Upon disassembly, I found that the whole trigger assembly was dry, saving the little bit of motor oil. Now all is well, with a cleaning and dab of RIG. Point is, whenever I overlook a detail, it almost always jumps up to lock its jaws firmly on my posteriior.
