Kinda depends on how much you are melting. I use a single burner camp stove and a cast iron pot for smelting raw lead into ingots. Doesnt really take long at all.

OK I melted some now, took about a hour or so. It was kind of cool. after i pulled the pot off the burner i chucked it out in the snow and the steam it generated was sweet.

i usually ladle it into a mold and save the ingots for making boolits.
but whatever you wanna do [shrug]

It will melt faster if you only cover the bottom with lead, be it WW or something else. Then when that is melted add some more but don't fill it to the top. also make sure what you add has not moisture on or in it or you will get a visit from the tinsel fairy.

LOL!
I hope he didn't dump his lead out in the snow! That's blasphmey to some folks around here. There are better forms of entertainment.

No, after i melted the lead and poured it in the mold, then i tossed by pot into the snow.

I timed my colman once, about the same as a small bottle propane burner, 10-15 min tops. As leadman stated, start with just a few and add as it melts. I have a set of forceps for picking the clips out as this happens.
