My mother in law just had a benign tumor the size of a small orange removed from inside of her skull, just behind her left eye. As it grew over the years, it pushed her eye and socket forward by about, by about 4mm. Had it been in much longer, she would have lost her eye.
So, 14 hours of surgery later, the tumor was out. They did an amazing with the incision. It is from above her ear to just above the center of her forehead, about an inch into her hairline. What was really interesting was they did not have to shave her hair.
So, she has a black eye, some swelling in her cheek, and whole heck of a lot of titanium where the diseased bone was removed.
Here is the best part. We visited her today, she was up, chatting with the nurses and had just finished a walk around the ICU. Other than her arm being sore from laying on it for 13 plus during surgery, and her face being a little tender, she is doing just fine.
The docs are thinking she might be heading home on Wednesday, and she had surgery on this past Friday... Holy moly.
Kudos to the medical team at The Ohio State Medical University!

Thank God for modern medicine. I for one would not be here without it.

Glad to hear it, Pb2au. I agree, when it comes to surgery and trauma treatment, modern medicine is just amazing. Hope she continues to heal well.

Update:
Holy Sheep! they are sending her home this afternoon! My wife went up to sped the day with her and the docs said all was well, everything was going as planned, so they are releasing her!
I am just flabbergasted, and happy. The idea that they can do all of that work on a Friday, then send her home on monday is just amazing.

Let's hope that Obamacare does not hinder the continual progress of our medical profession.
