In the past I have only been casting boolits for my 45 but just purchased a mold for 9mm. I bought an RCBS 9mm-115-RN part number 82026. I cleaned the Oil off the mold with break cleaner before use and it drops bullets easily however I am getting flashing on the nose as seen in the attached pictures. When I hold the mold up to the light I can see a sliver of light in the nose of the cavity where I am getting the flashing. Since this is my first steel mold I have come here for advice on what to do. The gap doesn't seem to change if I really squeeze down on the handles. Any ideas?
Thanks

First, I'd give it a good hard scrubbing with an old toothbrush(nothing more aggressive than that), then close it to see if that helped. If not, look it over carefully in good light to check for burrs on the edges of the blocks and then look at the pins and their holes for burrs. If you find a small burr you can scrape it off carefully and more than likely your problem is solved. While you're inspecting, look at the pins to be sure one is not standing up too tall. That could make it hard to close.

alignment pins.
this is common on rcbs molds.
tap them in untill the mold closes.

Agreed on the burrs and alignment pins. Also check that lead didn't deposit on the block faces, preventing them from closing all the way. A little dab of lube on the pins won't hurt.

I would rather squeeze them in than tap them because you have more control. A vice will do it easily and go slowly and incrementally.

Great advice everyone. I will check that out in the morning.
Thanks

Old Caster thanks for the advice. I used a vice an pushed the pins in a touch and the mold works great now. I cast about 20lbs of lead today into nice shinny 9mm boolits!! Waiting for my lubesizer to arrive from Midwayusa. Tired of pan lubing.
