What is the best cast bullet to run in my marlin mg 30-30.? I sm looking for 100 yards accuracy with 1700 fps accuracy with powders like unique, 2400 etc for economy. Van you reccomend a bullet. If it is a ranch dog then where can I buy one?

I've had good success with Lymans 311041 and IMR 4198

311041, is suppose to be real good. NOE molds has some on their website from a recent group buy.

the nose on the lyman and the lee run a mite small for marlins but 2" at a 100 is doable

LBT is Lead Bullet Technologies, a very good book by Veral Smith.
I have found the 311041 and the Lee 309-150 work well in my Marlins.

LBT go here

I trust Veral"s knowledge , some others do not?

I have one of his molds and it is the easiest mold to cast with that I own, also use his lube on all bullets that are run through a lubrisizer.

I use a Ranch dog 311165 bullet in my marlin 30/30, alloy lyman #2, water dropped, and run it at factory jacketed velocities using 748 powder, deadly on whitetails, and no leading. Now my marlin does not have micro-gruve rifeling,it's an oldie from 1946

I contacted Lee precision several months ago and ask if they were planning on offering the Ranch Dog bullet designs as a stock item and their reply was, no plans at this time , what a shame.

I agree with crappie-hunter about LBT--Veral's knowledge of what works is unequaled. The most accurate bullet in my Marlin 336-.30-30 is the LBT .311/180 LFN-GC. Second best is Lyman's #311291

RCBS 30-150FN works very well in both of my Marlin 336's with Micro-Groove bbls.

Yesterday I discovered that a heat treated 311466 at .311 is a fine shooter in one of my Marlin .30-30's. Load was 17g of WC 820. Primer CCI 200.

Veral Smith/LBT does indeed make a good mold. I have several, but none for the .30-30Win. However, my experience with CB accuracy in my Marlin #336 is different. I.e., my most accurate CB in the Marlin is the Saeco #315, a truncated cone, tapered Loverin design. Almost tied with it for repeatably accurate results is Lyman #311466, a Loverin type. I suspect #311467 would also do well.

I have a 323470 bullet, squeezed it down to 312, it is a lovering bullet, I wonder how this will work.

If you fill the lube grooves with your favorite bullet lube, they will not be obliterated by the radical resizing. You also need a Lee push through sizing die for this, a strong press, and quite a bit of muscle. Btw, my #336 shot best with CB's sized to .310". Those sized to .309" and .311" weren't nearly as accurate as the .310's.

That seems to be changing. They are offering select moulds as special-order items and are considering adding them to the 2014 catalog. You may contact them thru the RDO site or directly. The Lee rep that contacted me spends a bit of time here but I think e-mails thru company channels would be helpful in keeping these moulds readily available.
