Call me silly, but I use a 44mag too for hunting, a RSRH.

I have found that a 240gr will be PLEANTY of medicine. I even like the 200gr offerings with good meplats. So you may want to keep that in mind.

and to be completely contrary. I shot my last deer with a 300gr HP. :) This one.
The GC HP one.

walkingstick, welcome to the forum, you will find lots of knowledge and experience here. Browse thru stuff that has already been posted and study what you're looking for. There will be many others here that provide a quick response to your question. I would be happy to but I am not an expert on the 44 mag. There are many here that are tho so be ready and learn all you can. JW

Welcome walkingstick. Yes you will find lots of good information here. Keep in mind that you might get a lot of different opinions on what is the best boolit for your 44 mag. It is all good information because most of the opinions you get are tried and true results of a hands on shooter with his or her particular firearm. In the end you will have to choose what is best for you. As JW said I am not expert on the 44 mag, however I tend to listen to Blammer who has tons of experience in shooting the 44. In some cases I like the heavy for caliber boolits, but in general for my use I find they are harder on the gun and the shooter. The time to go heavy is for hunting which is what you are after. I don't think you need to go heavier than the 240 gr for whitetail deer. That is my opinion but I am not the expert here on that. It will be interesting to see what feedback you get.

Welcome aboard Walkingstick,
You mention you are new to cast boolits so I would suggest you do some reading, start with the stickies, you will learn there are some tricks to making cast shoot well in any particular gun. To get good accurate loads the first step is the proper size boolit. Lube is important too. There is a lot more to shooting cast than pour load and shoot.

But it sure is fun and that's why we are here. You might find a mould in the Group Buy section.

Go to The Commercial Sector
Then Vendor Sponsors
about half way down select:

Then select:

I tried to just add the link but it would not work.

Good luck,

While you don't need a hollow point, this MP mold is my latest acquisition. These can also be made as a solid, simply by turning any of the 3 HP pins backwards. I only tried 2 loads with these after I got the mold, but it looks like it will work well.

One mild load, one with a pretty hot load of 2400. My SBH is also a 10.5.

The penta point and big HP weigh 251, the small HP weighs 261. I didn't cast any solids, but I suspect they would be in the 275-80 range. At least with that range lead alloy, which is about what to expect with wheel weight metal.

Man Snuffy those are sweet, thats is definately what im looking for. Where can i find the reload data for those type/grain bullets at. Do they require a lubricant on the bullet as well...what about gas checks?
Sorry to ask so many questions...just wanna learn something new. I have a couple of presses and reloading equipment, just never made any cast bullets. I have a very large ingot of lead and spent bullets to smelt down just no knowledge of how to do it. Is there a source to find a reputable book that i can read to help me?
Many Thanks!

Shop around you can find them cheaper. Try Mid South Shooter Supply or Natchez Shooting Supply.

If you like Snuffy's boolits I think that is the same mold that bufuller14 was talking about in post#9. I think I can get the link to work:
http://mp-molds.com/shopping/pgm-more_information.php?id=3&=SID

Those brass MP Molds are really nice I have several in assorted calibers.
