My first deer was taken with a 44mag many years ago and now I am looking to do it again this year with CB's and my 629.

I would like to hear about your favorite load using CB's in the 44 magnum.

My favorite .44 load for just about anything is 9.5 gr of Unique under a 240-250 cast boolit, i use a 429421 Keith style SWC for hunting but i would also just as happy use a WFN if i had one. The beauty of this load is it won't beat a gun or person to pieces, and it's cheap to shoot as a practice and carry load. I have no doubt it'll plow through a deer any way i need it to and cuts a nice big hole. I suppose i could use 2400 or H110, but then you're talking close to twice the charge weight, more blast, less fun, for only a couple hundred fps when i can use one load for pretty much anything i'll need a sixgun for, except buffalo or the big ugly bears but in a pinch i think it'd brain a bear just fine too.
Glad to see you're going back at it with the revolver again! Good luck!

Cowboy: Do you use a filler with this load? What type of alloy are you using?

10.0 grains Unique with an Accurate 43-260V. This is my standard 44 load out of my 6.5" 629-4.

I am another fan of 10 grains unique. I am loading a plain base NOE 431-255(or so) hollow point in Rem cases and standard winchester primers. It is easy on my hands, easy on my weapons, and since I usually dont wear plugs while hunting, the reduced blast is easy on my ears also.

Lyman 429640 Devestator HP.
And 1 1/2gr less than max load of AA#9.

my everyday 44 mag load is 9.3 grs of unique and either the 429421,or the 429667 rnfp.
i wouldn't hesitate to use either on a deer.
i also use 19.3 grs of 2400 when i want something faster.

My everyday load is very much like everyone else's. 10gr unique behind a 429421. My hunting load is a 265gr mihec 429640 small hole hollow point with 22gr of h110 behind it. I have taken deer and antelope with both loads.

I knew I could count on yenz here to get me in the game with my 629. I will be working up some different loads from a few of the suggestions provided.

Thanks to all.

All of these have put deer inthe freezer for me.
Every day load is 429421 solid over 6.5 of red dot.

18.5 of 2400 over WW 429421 as Elmer suggested. I know this was his .44 special load, but it is easy on my 29-3 silhouette.

Nope, no filler! I load so many of them for our .44's its not worth messing with a filler, this load lights off pretty darn well, i never really even worry about using magnum primers even though it can be well below zero when we shoot, makes things simple to just use standard primers in everything. 50/50 WW pure, it pretty much follows the KISS principle, one load for darn near anything makes life simple! I like to think back to how Elmer did it and figure if guys back then could kill the same critters we hunt without making life too hard, we probably still can today.
