Has anyone used this .457 340 grain mold with a Browning or new production Winchester 1886. I know some of the Lee mold will give a small boolit and I am concerned about the .457 diameter but I have not slugged my bore yet either. I normally shoot 300 gr Remington hollow points and it shoots great but I would like to make my own for it.

Thanks Tim.

...........Hey Timb1, both the Lee 340 and 405gr (not the HB) have always cast small. Or at least those I've had and the same thing from 2 shooting buddies. The Lee 340gr makes a great 45 Colt boolit sized to .452" IMHO :-) To get a fatter 45 cal Lee you'll have to go to the 450gr slug or the 405gr HB and there isn't mush use dinking around with a HB if you don't need it.

For a lighter slug I'd go with the RCBS 45-300. It does take a GC so that may be a turn off for you, but it's an outstanding slug. I've shot it with good accuracy to 1900 fps. Although RCBS labels it a 300gr, I don't think you will get a slug lighter then 315grs (and more like 325) from all I've heard and what my copy does.

Buckshot, thanks for the info, that is what I thought. I am looking for a lite weight bullet as the 86 carbine I have is a killer on both ends.

Thanks Tim.
