Most birthdays don't really do much for a person. Age 8, I think it is a boy can join the Cub Scouts. Age 11 join Boy Scouts and I think 14 for Explorers. 16 is a biggee---drivers license. 17 can join the military with parental consent. 18 can join military without parental consent and you register for selective service. 21 buy alcoholic bevrages(legally---possibly been doing it otherwise for awhile)vote. 25 a guys auto insurance drops. Now 40 it is not a law or anything, but that's when most get a real treat----bifocals. 55 you get the senior discount at Denny's. Can get their senior breakfast. This one, lots of the young waitresses give it to you without asking---even before you are 55. Never seen ID checked on it. 62 can start drawing social security currently---I think the age on that is going up. You will draw more if you wait till 65 and if you are going to live to be 115 or so it is a real good idea. So from 25 until 62 not much of importance--The Denny's is no big deal pretty much 37 years of nothing. Well Tuesday is my 62nd so it's a biggee as I will get my first social security check in Sept.

Happy birthday, Ray. I'll Air Freight you a cat Monday. A ewe would cost too much...

Ray, hopefully they make a mistake and send you two checks in September! You know, you can always hope for a wish to come true. But so what, you got a cat coming your way from the Scrounger, maybe. ... felix

For most cops in CA, age 50 is a HUGE goal--at that time, you become eligible to retire--which I did. I thought about hanging around after turning 50, but the payoff wasn't worth another 3 years of my life--about 8%, so if I stop spilling beer--I could break even. Health was an issue, too--so age 50 happened at a pretty timely moment for yours truly. Being away from cop work for 8 months now, the health is pretty stabilized since I can give it the attention it needs. Getting old is a PITA, but is far better than NOT getting older.

In honor of Carpetman's birthday, I'll post some cat pictures for him. I'll remove them in a little while so they don't eat up the bandwidth... or whatever...
