Are the prices coming back down to earth?

I have a featherweight 30-06 with a small crack behind the tang. A friend was interested, but thought with the stock crack it was not worth $600. Good bore, and overall condition.

What say ye...?

i gave 350.00 for an 0-6 version last fall, might have paid more but wasn't enamored with the 4x scope.
the shop owner offered 300.00
it made a nice christmas present for a new hunter.

Didn't winchester go back to the CRF of pre-64 models? Wouldn't that cause the price to fall since that is what made them so desireable?

The older ones are better made IMHO. Slicker to operate,or well used.......still slicker.

The old one's are made better. But the new ones good easily surpass them if craftmanship mattered.

most guy's look and see they can get a new rifle for 300 bucks and still shoot a deer with it.
it's more accurate than an old one and it's new so why bother.

I can still remember when Winchester upped the prices from $119.95 to $129.95 for the Model 70`s. In `66 I bought a standard grade model 70 in `06 for $129.95. The hardware store owner threw in a roll up gun case and a box of 180 gr. silvertips for free. Dang, I miss the old days!Robert

I just reckoned that going back to the CRF would have caused prices to fall on the pre-64 models since new ones were more readily available with the more desirable feature.

That $130 in '66 would translate to $465 in today's dollars. It would still be a good buy at that that price.

My wife's Browning "Safari" (FN Mauser) cost $265 in 1969, which sounds about right in comparison to the M70.

In the early '90s, we bought her a new M70 "Super Grade" .338. This is BY FAR the nicest M70 I have EVER seen, of any vintage. It is virtually flawless, in wood, quality of workmanship, trigger action, SLICK action...and it shoots like a dream.

I have never even taken it out of the stock, and for me, that is almost unheard-of. I still like the pre-64s, but this later Super Grade sure does compare exceedingly well.
