I have been surprised at the number of people I know who are asking where to find ammo. I had two today wanting a box of 50 to qualify for concealed carry. Also the concealed carry interest has really shot up. I have been asked to see if a concealed carry instructor would come to our church for classes. Our pastor wants CCW members to be armed in services. I have to check to see if the church can grant permission for CCW as the state law prohibits CCW in churches.
OK, it seems the Pastor or church official(s) can give permission for CCW in church. One of the local instructors is willing to give a class at the church. Several of the local churches have members interested , so I have volunteered to get the ball rolling. If ammo can be found.:(

I have a cousin who seems to think that because I handload ammo and cast my own bullets that my ammo is FREE!
She called me up last week wanting a hundred rounds of 40S&W ammo for her new boyfriends gun. Didn't even bother to offer to pay me anything, she just told me, you load it, it's free!

She's still looking for ammo....

Same here in WV. There was a recent CCW permit class with a record number of students.
I was in the local Gander Mountain(Charleston, WV). There was some ammo available but a very high prices. 50 rounds of .38 Special +P was $44.99 for a box .
The only .22RF ammo was the "Troy from Swamp People". It was $27.99 for 250 rounds.

As everybody has been saying, it's going to get 'even worse' befor it gets better. I now tell every person that bugs me for any kind of ammo, "you go and find 9 other guys that will go with you and you all pay for my 06 FFL, my $2250.00 ITAR stamp, and pay for my liability ins. and I'll load all the ammo you and the 9 others want and you pay for the componets". Other wise NO. I get unbeliveable offers for reloads.

My dove hunting buddy was complaining the other day at the coffee clutch that he was down to 1/2 a box of .44 Mag for his Ruger. I wouldn't be able to sleep if I was that low. He's a good guy and I told him I had his back covered. He didn't know I cast. Pays to have friends sometimes./beagle

Might have to allow qualifying with airsoft or paintball guns............LOL

The best bet might be qualifying with the "judge" . 410 ammo might be easier to find..

The executive board member who runs the newsletter for our rifle-pistol club knows I'm a heavy-duty reloader/boolit caster so, last weekend, he e-mailed me asking for 'recommendations' of sources for reloading supplies to publish in his next edition. Appears he's had a number of inquiries from club members who've suddenly decided to take up reloading. I responded with a list of my regular sources...accompanied by comments on their reliability, shipping prices, HAZMAT policies, etc...but also mentioned that every one of them is, currently, 'out of stock' on just about everything useful. Also included a carefully worded statement making it quite clear (I hope!) that I don't cast (or reload) for anyone else but that I'd welcome newbies to my workshop for instruction/coaching...so long as they bring their own supplies!!

In the same vein, a guy with whom I shot skeet and sporting clays quite a few years back called this morning. Seems like he wants to set up his 'old' Dillon 650...which has been gathering dust for the last 12-15 years...and can't find his owner's manual. After I referred him to Dillon's website to download a new copy his next question was: "How you fixed for primers?" followed by: "You know anyplace that has any .223 bullets in stock...I'd prefer HPs but I'll take FMJs if that's all that's out there?"

From all the signs and omens, I 'spect we got us a long, dry spell a'comin'...

I have been carrying in services ever since (about 6 weeks ago) a local church organist was shot and killed as she sat playing for the church on the platform by her estranged husband.
Seems like all of a sudden the nuts have come out of the woodwork.

I stopped by our local Walmart today and they are limiting ammo purchases to three boxes per person per day. Are they in the business to make money, or is it something else?

The sporting goods people at our local Walmart are shooter and have always tried to spread the supply around when things were tight. Ours has a 2 box max right now.

I had a chat with the Sheriff today, explaining to him that ammo is drying up and people can't find any. He suggested I talk to the circuit court judge and ask for a waiver on the qualifying because there's no ammo to be had.

I've got maybe a hunnerd bucks worth of assorted handgun ammo hidden in the back of my local Mom & Pop shop waiting on me to come get it. About 3/4 of it is for friends and the rest is for me. Believe it or not, the elderly gentleman actually found a K of SR primers for me! I'm thinking seriously about taking him and his wife out to dinner.

That's a good thought on asking the judge to wave the qualifying. May have to try that angle. Good response from people so far. I need to talk to them about joining the NRA while they are there.

Jim, no actual firing is required to obtain a permit in VA. You can qualify by taking an on-line course even. The local judge cannot legally add anything to the requirements listed in state law. Check the Virginia State Police website, it's all there.

That being that, I'd personally want anyone I instructed to have some Range time.

I don't think the anti gun crowd has realized the sleeping giant they have awakened......................

They will in short order if not already.........

I've got a range on my place and several folks have "invited themselves out to shoot. You don't just show up here,it's 20 miles to the big city, but they "were just passing by and thought......."
They are still looking for a free place to shoot. And the gate will be getting an electric lock to go with the auto open feature. A stern warning sign is
going to be ordered too. Trespassing in Texas with a firearm is a big NO-NO. The sheriff's office is on my speed dial. Mrs. Farmer's too. Plus she is packin' all the time. She got snuck up on once, didn't like it. Got her CCW and now is waiting for 'em if they want to test the little lady. I wouldn't want to push her.......and I'm married to her. YMMV. I tread lightly.......

It all started when a rattlesnake attacked her poodles you see......................

I found out that Texas law specifies 32 cal. or larger for qualification. Sounds as if we will have quiet a crowd Saturday.

My wife had her car stolen last week and local PD found it. I live out in the county, so a sheriff's deputy came by at midnight and woke me with the good news AND a ride to the car, where local PD was standing watch over it so the perp didn't come back. On the ride over, the deputy and I talked about shortage of ammo and rifles and asked me (I run a large gun store) if I saw any supplies bein' freed up any time soon.

What I told him was that large ammo makers are focusing on just a few calibers ( 9mm, .45ACP and .223) 'round the clock just to satisfy the HUGE demand of regular folk, and I estimate at least 4 months (barring any FURTHER nonsense from the socialists-in-charge) before we see things ease up. He said things are gettin' short at the S.O.'s armory too...... what interesting times we live in, eh?

I too have a range on my place but so far nobody has tried to horn in on it. there are two ranges open to the public around here that charge ten bucks per person for non members and I understand they are usually full up.
