View Full Version : What's the maximum I can size down a bullet in a Lee resizer?

I have some .320 round balls that a friend cast a while back. I want to size them down to .314 and load them up in a .32 S&W long for low cost plinking. Is this physically possible with a Lee sizing die? Or is it too much downsizing?

Thanks,

-John

I have some .410s I'm sizing down to .402 for my 40 cal. and I'm still retaining the lube grove. I'm not doing it with a lee but being 50/50 ww/pure they go through the lyman relatively easy. Lube a few up and try them.

I have some .4555ish boolits that I size in my .451 sizer (which is actually a .450)... They go in and out easily. Shouldn't be a problem. Especially since those are probably 99% pure lead, and mine are hardened WWs.

.320 to .314 is no problem in the Lee sizer.

Resizing a round ball will give you a very narrow band of the new dimension and unless the balls are loaded in your cases with that band perfectly perpendicular to the lands and groves in your barrel, its pointless. A cylinder is sized at 360 degrees, a ball isn't. From 320 to 314 is a change of three thousands and hardly noticed by the naked eye.

I size down .460 boolits to .454 all the time.

Physically possible? Just put a little case sizing lube on one and run it through. Then you'll know how hard or easy it is. :)
