I am planning on hunting whitetail with a .44 Rem Magnum Handi-rifle next fall. I already own a Lee C429-240 SWC mold which shoots very well with 21 gns of Win 296. I also have the Lee C430-300 RNF which I have read may not stabilize. Would I do well to purchase the Lyman #429640 250 gn. Hollowpoint for hunting? Also, does anyone have any experience with the 300 gn bullet out of a Ruger Super-Blackhawk?

I am waiting for a day off and a reasonably nice day to try out the 300 gn bullets

I've had good luck trying out designs buying from Marshall Stanton at Beartooth Bullets. You might take a moment to look what he has for sale. The 280gr WFNGC ought to stop any deer in the woods.

try what you have.
the lee 300 rnf is the boolit i would buy if i needed something heavier.
i wouldn't hesitate to use the 240 swc it will do the job just fine.
you don't need anything fancy, fast, or hard.
just poke 2 holes in the thing and it will die.

The Lee 240 SWC GC'd will do fine with the load you have. You could optimize the terminal performance with as soft an alloy as accuracy will allow. HPing with the Forster 1/8" HP tool to 1/4" deep will further optimize the terminal effect. I also highly recommend the Lyman Devastator HP cast of 16-1 or COWWs +2% tin and then add 50% lead. Mine weigh out 270 gr fully dressed and are very accurate out of my Ruger 50th BHFT, my Contender and my Colt Anaconda.

Either of the boolits you have will kill a deer if you hit it right. At this point your challenge is accomplishing accuracy with either of them. It doesn't really matter which, if a 30 caliber boolit will kill a deer you don't have to worry about one starting with a 4!

The twist in your rifle will dictate what weight you can shoot.

Try the 300 & see what happens. If you don't like the results, stick with the 240 that works well. I think it really is that simple.
