Hi Folks,

Veral Smith at LBT is going to make a four-cavity LFN GC mold for my new 41 Rem Mag Freedom Arms M97 when it comes in (I need to slug the throats first, so I haven't placed the order yet). I'm trying to decide what weight to make the bullets. Lighter will produce less recoil, one of the many reasons I chose the 41 in the first place. On the other hand, the wide lube groove Veral uses, the gas check shank, the crimp groove and the 0.35" nose I want all add up to a lot of length. The width of the driving bands is the only thing left, and I don't want to reduce them so much that accuracy might be affected. So I'm asking about your experiences: what weight cast bullets do you find best in your 41 Rem Mag revolvers?

If I have to, I can switch to the WFN design. The shorter nose will allow more room for driving bands. Thoughts?

Take care, Tom

I've been using a 210grSWC that casts at 216 with no complaints. I cast these for my Blackhawk Hunter and my old Blackhawk that my friend now owns. Very accurate in both guns with a .5gr difference in powder. Just got in on a group buy for a hollowpoint mold from MIHEC that should be about the same weight but with a hollow point and +10 or so without.

Quite a few guys I talk to say the 230's are the way to go.

Hi Fellows,

Are your bullets gas check designs? What are the nose lengths?

Thanks, Tom

The .41 should do well with about anything that fits. I don't think they need a check either. I make all my big bore stuff PB and just toughen the boolit to stop skid past the base band.

The RCBS 41-210-SWC is an excellent "all around" performer in my current .41 Ruger Bisley and was in my previous Ruger BH and S&Ws. The Lyman GC'd would be my choice but GC' availability in .41 cal is difficult to say the least. I also extensively use the Lee TL410-210-SWC. My plinking loads are with the older Lee TL410-175-SWC or the TL410-195-SWC. However, I consider the 210 - 215 gr bullets as best all around for the .41 Magnum.

So after the other threads you decided to go with the FA. Nice!

I've had good luck in the 41 with 210-230 gr boolits. The RCBS 210 SWC that Larry mentioned is a great boolit and it's pretty tough to go wrong with an RCBS mold.

The only commercial cast boolit I've ever bought was for working up loads for a friend's 41 FA 10" and that was the Leadheads 245 gr. I used that boolit because he doesn't cast and I didn't want to go into the casting business to keep him supplied. It's a gas checked, truncated nose FP with about 80% bearing surface. That boolit was simply shocking how well it shot. With a Burris 10X from the bench I could stack boolits on the 150 meter silhouette turkey all day. After working up that load I decided that if I ever got another 41 I would find out what mold that was.

This is it with their lube?, I did need to re-size them to fit the FA's throats.

Just to give your grey matter a little something to chew on.

Hi Rick,

Yes, I was put off by the 6 - 7 month wait, but then found out that Wayne Baker keeps them in stock, and had exactly what I wanted on hand. So now I have about another week to wait, and I'm getting a bunch of ammo loaded in preparation. I have Sierra 210 gr, Sierra 220 gr (discontinued), Speer 220 gr (also discontinued), Remington 200 gr, and Lee 210 gr TL bullets. So while I'm waiting on a new mold, I'll have plenty of ammo to shoot. I'm going back to the thread about Alpha Precision and add something about the before and after idea too.
