Gents,
Will the Lyman 358429 cycle through an 1894 Marlin? I have heard OAL was an issue. I want a heavier than 158, plain base bullet for both long and short guns.
What about the RCBS heavy weights?

Nope…The O.C.L. when seated in the crimp groove is 1.645”±. So, I trimmed the cases back approximately 0.040” and this makes an O.C.L. of 1.605”±. These loads will cycle, but a few thousands shorter would be better. I made a washer as a spacer and set the dies to reload 38 Special. I insert my washer and reload for the Marlin and then insert the RCBS washer and reload for regular length 357 Magnum that I use in my Security-Six. It is a pain and tedious, by that bullet really shoots well in my 1894C. Good-luck…BCB

FWIW- My Puma won't cycle one of the longer 44 booilt designs in 44 mag, I don't recall which one and don't want to incur the wrath of anyone who has a Marlin or Winnie that WILL cycle the design. Anyways, I use 44 Special brass and it works fine. A little judicious loading should get me decent velocity in the lighter mag ranger without issues, if not true mag speed.
