I just got off the phone with a local dealer. He's holding an 8 pound canister for me for $145.00 + tax. Individual 1 pound cans for $18.99 per pound.
Gander Mountain $31 a pound! They can go pack sand!!!!

I thought I should add something to my last post about 3031 prices the powder was bought at a big supplier, my opinion about powder costs is that cabela's, gander mtn etc are going to keep charging these crazy prices because enough people buy it. If you look it can be found at a much better cost but at 8lb quantities, which isnt so bad if 2 or more shooters go in the cost.

I can only dream of paying USD31.00 lb here in NZ.

That would be CHEAP.

...................Locally, retail for smokeless pretty much runs between $18 to $22/lb for the 'Big 4' being IMR, Hodgden, Alliant, and Winchester.

The best deal will always be the offers made by the larger mailorder/online distributors. If you can get together with a couple other guys and meet the minimums for the special shipping and price offerings, you can save $3-4 per lb over retail. That can add up to some meaningfull savings on each 8 lb jug.

The secret is to keep buying until you show a profit :-)!

Well I just got back from the local dealer. The price on that 8 pounds was not $145.00, but $115.00, soooo I bought 2k of LR primers to boot.

Are you expecting prices to come down, or are you going to stop reloading? Hell, surplus powder is starting to approach those prices after you add in the shipping and HAZ-MAT.

Sportsman's Warehouse down the street carries most powders for between $15.50 and $18.99 a pound. I just bought AA#7 and H4895 for $15.50 each, I think IMR 3031 is $16.50. Still have some of that left over I haven't used yet. If you were next door I'd give it to you - none of my rifles like it. H4895, AA#1680, and Reloder 15 instead.

I remember when Gander Mnt was a cheap mail order supplier. I went into one of their stores recently and got sticker shock. I didn't even buy any .22's. I thought I was in Neiman Marcus or a Caddy dealership.

LOL at some of these posts. I don't buy powder in less that 8 lb. containers anymore. I very seldom ever get close to running out of a particular powder. I do agree that the price on surplus powder is getting a bit rediculous lately. I think the dealers are trying to match the metals market prices. I can get 8 lb of just about any powder locally for less than $120.

paranoia started settling in pretty good this week. ordered though ffl friend $1000+ of powder and primers

cci / win primers 18.10-18.30/1000
unique 8lbs $86 each if you buy 2
titegroup same for $91
h4198 and imr3031 $110

these prices aren't too bad yet, so why not insure i have it on hand?

and yes local codes will be honored in storage- have a spinklered long term storage space avaiable a couple minutes away where i'll keep a good bit of this and my existing supplies. (in case firemarshals are monitoring this forum. ha)

I could never afford to buy more than one or two pounds at a time. $120 is a LOT of money for me.

A pound of anything runs $26-$29.
For an eight pound jug, if you can find it, runs $180-$200.
Shops excuse is the high shipping and haz-mat cost.
We don't have much choice, because no one is willing to ship to us shooters.
