Hey guys. I have an old Rem. 788, a heavy barreled 700, and a new ruger gun site scout rifle, all in .308.
I have a Lyman 311041 mold, but was wondering what your go to mold for the .308 is??
This is NOT for hunting purposes. Just punching paper, soda cans, and the like.
The 311041 leaves lube grooves exposed outside the case mouth if I remember correctly.
Is there a better mold out there suited more toward the .308?
How heavy can I go? 200GR??
NOE has a nice looking 198GR pointy Boolit.
My loading experience is limited to 150-168GR J words.
.30 cal stuff is getting hard to come by around here, so cast is in order.
Thanks for your input.

P. S.
If anyone has any commercial .308 brass they would like to sell, please pm me.
Not Apossed to military fodder, just not sure how to process it.
Thanks.

If you are just punching paper and soda cans, why not the Lee Soupcan? http://leeprecision.com/mold-dc-309-113-f.html

Under 1200 fps, use it without the GC.

Thanks Norbrat, but I'd like to stay 160+
I really like the way the NOE 198 Boolit looks.
Will a 1-10 twist stabilize this Boolit?
168 is the heaviest I've ever ran in .308

Punching the numbers into the Greenhills formula here: http://www.z-hat.com/twistrate.htm

give a min twist of 1-11, so should be OK.

It don't shoot worth a hoot! Just kidding, it should work fine in your .308 with slower burning powders to keep the pressure down to what the bullet can handle. Here's my favorite example, out of my Krag, which incidentally is close in capacity to the .308. Not to shabby for a 117yr old, iron sighted rifle. Unfortunately, Al doesn't show any of the 311365s in stock. The Saeco 315 should be another good one, though not as heavy. In fact there's a group buy for them running now that should close soon.

http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?109707-Noe-311365-sp More results with the 311365 in the .308.

For the .308W the RCBS 168 Sil bullet or the 311299 have always worked best for me if I want all the lube grooves and GC inside the case neck. As mention a powder with a slower burn rate fron 4895 upwards of RL22 will work best.

Both my 30-30 and my 308's shoot the RCBS 180 SP really well. The RCBS 180 FP does nearly as well. Any of these loads use air cooled WW with 2% added tin.

Please specify the NOE 311465 as the original runs @ 125 gr and would not be the lr one that you want.

I tend to aggree with larry.

The 311299, or 311644 shoot tremendously well from my .308. I have posted allot of loading and shooting info dedicated to these boolets in the .308Winchester.

With the help of guys like Larry Gibson and many more I have learned massive amounts of USEFUL information in reguards to loading for cast boolets.

Check my Post Histories and you should find some info that will help you.
Good luck and Have "LOADS" of fun shooting cast in your .308!

I have to chime in that the TL312-160 Lee boolit acts like it was made for 308/30/06 shooting. I size it at .311 and it makes a good plinker boolit. The molds are inexpensive too.

I've been having real good luck with the Lee 312-155-2R lately in the gunsite scout. It's actually shot the most accurate of any bullet or boolit I've tried so far.

PM me your ship to address and I'll put together a sampler pack for you to try.
As to the Military brass, the only other step in processing is to remove the primer crimp after de-priming. Easly done with the Chaffering/ chamfering tool

Waco I use the 31141 from NOE a recent group buy. Great in my Savage bolt gun as well as in my 7.62 NATO AK.
