Hey Guys,

I have had my Grandpa's .32 SW Long(ser 263xxx circa 1930 ish) and SW 32 WCF(ser 96xxx circa 1920ish) that I'm going to start reloading for. The SW Long should size at .312 and the 32-20 should size at .313. My Grandpa has been gone now for 10 years and my Grandma just gave me the guns a few years back, I cleaned them well but the barrel of the .32 SW Long has few pits, and the but the .32 WCF is in nice shape for its age..just a very small spec of pitting...probably shot a lot of corrosive ammo back in the day and not cleaned well. Mechanically the revolvers are sound.

So I'm thinking I can use the RCBS 98 g .32 SWC(#82061) its supposed to cast at .314 then I size them down for each gun.

Does anyone have any experience with this mold loading, does it cast at .314??

Also I'll be loading powder puff loads as the guns are 90+ years old.

Heres a pic of them, also the little .32 Mauser was brought back by my Great Aunt after WW2..guess the German officer didnt rate a Luger so they gave him a Mauser.

Should run sweet, might even persuade the Mauser to digest them!

I have used that bullet in both the .32 Long and the 32-20 and it works great in both of them. My mould does cast at right about 0.314"+. You should slug the barrels of both guns before sizing. My newer guns require it sized to 0.312". Both the barrel and chamber neck are smaller than my older guns. A 0.314" will not fit in the chamber of my newer guns. However, my older guns run larger and need the 0.314" to shoot well. Using 0.312" in them is too small and will keyhole and lead. From the age you state, I am guessing that 0.314" will probably work in both of them (maybe 0.313").

I also load for the .32ACP, but I have never tried that bullet in it. I use the round-nose Lyman for it.

My experience is that some pitting in the bore will not affect accuracy very much as long as the rifling is strong (full length, full height). However, rough bores will take a lot more cleaning.

Without knowing better, I would guess that the RCBS bullet sized .313 or .314 would work pretty well in both revolvers. with a little coaxing and attention to OAL and powder space, you might have good luck with the .32 acp as well.

The little I-frames I've had have all shot the RCBS bullet to POA (or very close) at 15 yards when being pushed by about 1.8-1.9 grains of bullseye. I can't speak to suggestions for the 32/20, but I imagine it'll prefer to be pushed a little harder, being light for the caliber, to shoot to the sights.
