Went to the range to see which was the best 45/70 mold! there was ammo loaded with 51.3g IMR 4895 and Lyman 300 g .459, Lee 405 HB, Lee 450 GC and Lee 500g spire point. The 300 was high at 50 yds about 3" and I am out of room on my sight to adjust but had a 1.5" group, the 405 was right on and a little high in the 9 ring on a 3" target, the 450gc was dead on and center, the 500g didn't do very good, key holed in my Sharps and just ok in the Buffalo Classic.
The load was stiff but not as bad as t M48 and Turk ammo, three loads were keepers. Over all a very enjoyable day.
Doesnt matter which were best as I will change something just to see if it works. I shot 70 rounds in two rifles over a three hour period.

I don't know if your askin' or tellin' but I have tried alot of 45/70 cast bullets and hands down the most accurate are 3 diff. Saeco bullets...the pb 405gr., the gc 465gr. and the pb 525gr. for the single shots...all shoot under 1" at 100yds. from my 45/70 Highwall. The first 2 work in the Marlin lever guns and have proven to be accurate in those as well.....try 'em....the Texas Panhandle won't seem the same!

have had really good luck with the RCBS 45-405 FN-GC, Marlin 1895GG, dont know if it is the best, but for the guide gun and my application, it will shoot 1" groups all day long at 100yrds. 1950fps 10' from muzzle.

405 and 500 rcbs molds hands down have been the most consistantly accurate in all the 4570 shooting ive done with smokeless powder.
