I've been really enjoying my Tikka, 30-06.
I had settled on a super accurate load of 17.5 grs. of 2400
with a SAECO 301 HP to deer hunt with this fall and
winter here in Alabama . ( Hp work done by Buckshot )

I killed a nice 8 point buck late this afternoon. The shot
was made at about 40 yards and about 10 minutes prior to sunset.

The bullet fully exited the buck and left quite a bit of
trauma on the exit hole side. The deer went about 30 yards and pilled up.

This one will be some good eating. Don't let anyone fool you about cast bullets not being capable of taking deer sized animals ! ! !

Here I'm shooting a bit earlier in the year with 16.0 grs. of 2400 with the SAECO # 301 Hp ( Please excuse the " typo ", .........that should read Wolf Primers ) :

I had a Tikka t3 hunter in 30-06. It would clover leaf it's shots at 100 yards. That was probably the best rifle I ever bought.
You see, I traded the rifle for a fishing boat, I sold the boat to help raise money for my wife's engagement ring.......and a few years later I bought the boat back.
Now, If I can just get my hands on that rifle again I'll have come full circle!

Just of curiosity, can you tell me what kind of velocity that 17.5 grains of 2400 is getting
out of your Tikka?

Nice harvest by the way.

I don't own a chrony ( I know I need one, you're right ...)
I'm guessing about 1,600 - 1,650 fps ?

Anyone else with a better guess ?

Ben looks like everything came together on this one. Congradulations on such a successful hunt all the way around.

Yes, as a hunter and cast bullet shooter, most of us love to shoot tiny groups so we can kill big deer.

I can't say that this one is all that big ( about 170 lbs ) ( some of the deer here will easily cross the 200 lb mark ) , but you're right ....it is nice when everything comes together.

i think you 17.5 grs is clinking along a bit faster than 1650 fps.
another 100 fps easily.

So......maybe 1,750 or so ? ? ?

It's obviously going fast enough. My rem 760 pushes a 311041 a fuzz above 1700 with 20 gr 2400.

Looks more like a, on the small side, 4 point. But still nice.

Nice buck, great pics and well told. Kinda curious about the boolit; alloy? water quenched? Looks like a complete departure from the big meplat school of thought with excellent performance. Interesting.
Could you do a sticky on photos? Mine suck.
