I just got my new Shilen 308 win varmit barrel in the mail. I am going to put it on later this evening and go out to shoot tomorrow. I can't wait.

1-10 twist 26" varmint profile. The 1-10 I think is going to limit me on how fast this will shoot?

Not any limit ,as that is a "normal" twist for 308. I have two such rifles, both 10" twist, and there is only the limit of pressure and powder capacity. What boolits or bullets do you plan on using? I shoot j-words some but mostly lead. I have several molds and like 'em all. For fun I like 311359. Easy on lead supply and will destroy a jackrabbit or coyote out to 150 yards when I do my part.......

I have a 185gr Lee, a 200gr Lee, 200gr RCBS SIL, and a MIHEC 180gr when it is done on the group buy. My old barrel loved the 200 lee and RCBS. Both shot under an inch at 100yds. The old barrel had a 1-12 twist. I am going to hang onto it I think for now. It shot Jacketed into a .2-.3" 7 shot groups.

Got it mounted and the headspace set. Boy, does this thing have a short throat!

Out of curiosity, how long did it take them to make your new barrel?

I ended up getting it from Jim @ Northlander. It was a Select match. He had it on hand. I just found out Rock Creek has prefits available for this. I wish they would have posted about it a week ago. I LOVED my last 5r 1-11.27 twist on large shank Savage Target action. It shot so good it was boring. I sold the whole gun because I didn't shoot it.

Last I heard Shilen was 18+ weeks out!
