Hey Everyone, I'm the new guy on the block here. Been lurking for over a month and decided to just jump in here with both feet.

If this is in the wrong forum I appologize. I'll delete it if need be and move it.

I've cast boolits off and on for several years but haven't been to serious about it till now. After reading a lot here I decided to get started casting boolits for a couple of rifles I own. One of my favorites is a Remington 141 in 35 Remington. Has anyone cast boolits for one of these rifles? Im wanting to shoot a 200 to 250 grain boolit out of it. Any suggestions on a mold that you guys have used with success for this caliber would help.

Before anyone asks, I have a lyman lube sizer and can get size dies for it. I've used it for my 41 mag for years so I am familure with how it and gas checks work.

Any helpfull hints or tricks are appreciated.

My next question will be along the same lines for my 141 in 30 Remington.

Thanks for having such a great forum with more information than I could possibly read in a lifetime.

Scott

Buy the RCBS 35-200 and don't look back.

That's horrible advice, everyone knows you have to buy a half dozen or so molds for 30 cal. Why limit the mans joy/frustration of trying out all kinds of boolits? :)

Thanks AnthonyB. I'll see if I can find one. I am concerned about what boolits will function in the tube magazine of this pump gun. It will be fun tinkering with it and find out.

rcbs makes a very similar 30-150 fngc that should do for the other one.
it is a good all round boolit from the 30-30 through the 30-06 [i haven't tried mine in my 308 yet]

I use the Accurate 36-210B in my Rem 141. I also use it in my 358WCF

I use Lyman 358430 195gr and Lyman 358311 158gr in my model 14. Excellent accuracy from both and have killed a couple deer with the 358430 when cast with 20-1 alloy
I have also tried a couple of SWC, with decent accuracy, but none of them would feed and had to be loaded singly.

Absolutely, not only an outstanding boolit design but ya get the added bonus of it being in an RCBS mold. The meplat of this boolit is fine in the tubular mag.

hello all im also a new guy here with a 1st post . im also playing around with a 35 rem but mine is a marlin (project gun i bought for next to nothing) . im not sure how it would be as a hunting load im mostly a plinker but ive been loading my 158 gr lswc and lrn bullets that i cast for my 38 and 357's in a 35 rem case with herco powder . they seem to shoot nice and the accuracy is there but i did notice they dont run through as smooth as factory ammo or as smooth as my 180 gr speer fp reloads . i ordered a lyman .358 dia 195 gr mold from midsouth almost 2 weeks ago im still waiting for it though. when i gets here i'll get a few hundred casted up pan lubed and loaded and post results

If you can find one, I highly recommend the Ranch Dog Outdoors 190 grain RNFLgc bullet sized to .359". An excellent bullet for 35 Remington. Ranch Dog Outdoors has closed up due to time constraints but his molds are still around if you look hard enough.

i am starting to cast for my model 141 35 Remington as well
i got a Lyman 358315
it is a round nose, gas check mold.
i cast my bullets out of hard ball alloy,
with a gas check they are 208 grains.
i have not yet lubed or sized them.

That's the boolit that I first started casting for a 35 Remington (Marlin) that my late uncle owned and hunted with. I sized them to .358, not knowing any better. I got that as a "most useful diameter" designated in an old Lyman manual. I never hunted deer with that boolit, but several friends of mine (Marlin owners all) did, and those that shot deer using that boolit never complained. Later on, I got the RCBS 200 grain mold that others have mentioned. That one is excellent, but I can only speak for levergun use. I do all of my casting with wheelweight alloy, mixed with a bit of pure lead. Never had a problem.

what kind of velocities are you driving your cast boolits out of your 35 remington?
and what type of lube are you using?

Read Glen Fryxell's article on lasc dot us about the .35 Remington. He talks a lot about certain Hodgdon powders and the velocities he was getting with accuracy in Marlin leverguns. Might tone it down a bit for other rifles. I prefer enough Reloder 7 to get my 200-grain boolits up to around 2100 fps.

When I started I was using Lyman Alox. Then, for years, I used Javalina until they went out of business. Nowadays, I use LS 50-50, and 3031 or Win 748. I worked up loads using data from the Hornady tables for their 200 gr jacketed bullet.

i have a model 14r carbine in 30 rem. if the boolits are not the correct length they will hang up. the lyman 170gr. mold will not work they are to long. a jacket 150 sierra fp. will hang unless seated below the crimp ring. the old info that came with these guns said only to use round nose boolits, i have a factory loaded box with rn and they seat deep. so watch for to long of a boolit.

Bowhunter, that is good information to know as I have a 30 Remington in a 141 also. I have been eyeing molds for it as well. When I posted this question about my 35 Remington I was wondering if I would run into a problem with the overall length working in my rifle. Thanks for the heads up.

the RCBS and the Accurate 36-210B cycle perfectly in my Rem 141 using the crimp grooves on each bullet
