This is where Cindy and I spend a lot of time in the Spring and Summer. I belong to the 40&8 which is a National Veterans group that was started after WWI. there is a strip mine lake and campgrounds there. We have a 33 ft. trailer with a 33 ft. covered porch on it at one of the permanent sites there. It costs $580.00 a year for the permanent site and $5.00 per night of camping which includes water and electricity. There are a lot of nice bass in the lake. I just retired and plan to spend a whole lot of time there. No internet but that is probably a good thing.

How deep is that lake? We have some around here that go a 100 feet deep. Most are 60-85 ft. though. All were for coal here.

30' deep at the max. I was always told it was a real deep lake but when I got my depth finder on my Bass Tracker, I found out what it really was. Some of the lakes around here are deeper but 60' is the deepest I know of. It must be where they found the vein of coal at.

Ok I am curious, is that 589 a year plus 5 bucks a night, or is that 5 bucks a night for guys that just use it daily.
And do you get a long term contract or just yearly.

Thanks Dean. It's a great group of guys.
Starmac, it is $580 per year for a permanent site and $5.00 per night of camping. I can go out there every day and it costs nothing unless I spend the night. As long as you pay your yearly fee (580) the site is yours.5704657047
The porch looks messed up but we were doing some remodeling inside the trailer at the time. We have a stove with oven, double sink and a refrigerator on the porch. That red shed is ours also. Gotta store stuff ya know. I can cast out there. I just put a flag pole in the yard. Should look great.

I saw the first sign of spring! Before Christmas!! A seed catalog!

It was snowing at the time, made me laugh. I thought that company is getting an early start, but now I have a catalog from every seed company I've ever done business with.

Lake what is that?we had a lake 30 miles up the road but haven't had enough rain to maintain it, three years ago it was 110' deep this December it is 22' stretched for ten miles now you can see the start and end and not have to strain. I for one do not think it will ever return.

Bringing up an old post, but this is where we have been since April. Cindy (my wife) and Kiah (my granddaughter) and I are spending as much time out there as we can. I have not been on this site or on the net very much at all since we went out there. I can get on the net if I walk a half mile but it just doesn't seem worth it most of the time. We are back in town for a couple of days to regroup, harvest the peas that are ready and get things ready for another stint out at the 40&8. I figure that I will have plenty of time to catch up on what is going on here at this site when it gets time for school to start. I hope all of you are doing well and enjoying warmer weather. It seems that the older I get, the more I like warm weather over cold.
