I'm interested in using the Lee .356 120gn TC mold for my 9mm. Seen here:

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/294531/lee-6-cavity-bullet-mold-356-120-tc-9mm-luger-38-super-380-acp-356-diameter-120-grain-truncated-cone#

I'm using Accurate No2 powder. The closest recipe from Accurate No2 is for 124gn RN, at 3.0-3.8gn powder and an COL of 1.050. As far as I can tell, this mold produces
a bullet quite a bit shorter than the 124gn RN from Lee that I already own.

Any idea what kind of COL or powder I should start with? I wish I could find a resource for this mold from Lee.

p.s. Sorry for all the newb questions, but this is the type of mold I want to pan-lube, right? Meaning, I wouldn't tumble lube this round, right?

You can email the powder company and they will send you a powder chart. I have done that a couple pf times when I was in question about how much powder to use. Unique got back to me in 48 hours

I use this boolit at 1.080. My boolits average pretty close to 124gns with AC COWW. I pan lube with FWFL, and size in a lee push thru. I am using 3.8gn Unique for a light plinking load for the wife. Most people stay away from tumble lubing for 9mm, but there are some here that do. You could do both with this bullet but you can't do both with the TL version.

Okay thanks for the info. My rounds typically drop a couple gns more than the mold says it will too. I use straight wheel weights, however. Do you size your rounds with .356, as the mold states? Or something different?

other than it's specced to 356 diameter there ain't nothing wrong with it.
in fact if it specced to 358+ i'd have one.
i guess i could lap it out,it wouldn't be the first time.

Is your overall length shorter than 1.05"?? You could start at 2.8 or 2.9 if you are seating deeper. I have had good communication with AA before.
This was when they were in McEwen Tennessee and where there own company. Now they belong with the Western Powder group.

That boolit is a near twin for the LY356402 and there is a lot of data for that mold. I use 4 gr AA2 with the 402.

All we need to do to get a powde burn rate chart is google "powder burn rate chart" and I think the Hodgdon's chart comes up - print it. That's what I've done. enjoy Mike
