Wife and I recently bought a house, has two fireplaces, one of which is in a den/family room with paneling and the mantle is just itching for a wall hanger shotgun or rifle.

I'll enjoy figuring out the right gun, but what kinds of hangers to mount to brick would you guys recommend? There are nice looking brass ones ready made out there, just curious what others are around.

that would work fine, i don't know what it would ultimatly cost.
but it would work.
like nolan said, some antlers usually do well [look good],or even some deer feet bent into shape.
you mount them on a board and mount the board on/in the bricks. [this give multiple mounting points]
our coat hangers in the kitchen are 2 point antlers mounted on a strip of stained oak.
you wouldn't know that from all the coats hanging on it.
and i also use them for hanging extension cords and such in the garage.

Dibs. For those of you not up to speed on the legal authority of dibs, whoever says dibs first gets the dibs'd item, even if others already expressed interest in the item.

Does seconds count?? might be slightly used, but I got brillo pads!! and lots of ice cubes!!

I have seen both horse shoes and rail road spikes bent into nice hangers if you are capable.

I knew an older gentleman years ago that had made a rack for his black powder rifle out of powder horns. He had picked up a couple of powder horns at a flea market and cut the large end open, poured some kind of epoxy in them and mounted a stud. The he made a backboard out of a piece of dog eared rough cut fence board and mounted the powder horns. I thought it looked nice and rustic.

That photographed rack wouldn't work.
Once you added the weight of the wall hanger rifle or shotgun, that single button would let go and everything would come tumbling down.

It would be a shame to damage something rare and valuable by hanging it on a cheap and inadequate rack.

Years ago I turned some pegs, stuck them in a couple of short boards, screwed them to the mortar between the bricks, and have had three different rifles hanging on them various times over the years. Right now my Lyman Great Plains caplock, was a my Sharps and may be again, at one time my 1895 JapChester.

We have a shelf above our fireplace which hangs on a brick surface. It's almost five feet wide, and holds a set of small, steel, sculptures.

I didn't want to make ANY changes to the brick, so I used a pair of devices called Brick Clips to hang the shelf.
Having also used them for other items, I would feel completely safe in trusting a pair of them to support the weight of a rifle ... even a heavy one, like a Sharps.

You can learn more about them here http://brickclip.com/

Yeah, I don't think that rack would go over so well with the old lady, LOL.

Some great ideas here. I have several shed antlers laying around, maybe I could work something out with those. I kind of like the railroad spikes idea and I have a dozen or so of those too. Horseshoes might be nice, though I'm not a horseman.

I'm going to get some of the brass ones they make for the purpose to at least look at. I need some of those to finish a shadow box up for the Henry Eagle Scout commemorative rifle I got for my son when he made Eagle Scout anyway. That'll give me a chance to check them out and see what they're like.

This is a really creative bunch on this board, lots of things I wouldn't have thought of on my own.
