I am looking for a load that will function my AR10 in 358 Win using either the RCBS 200 GR or Saeco 245 GR cast boolits. I have IMR 4198, 4895, 4350 powders as well as some others. I just want it to work the action reliably, nothing more. My barrel is 18" in length. I tried some IMR 7383 but find it to be too dirty. Would Alliant 2400 work or is it too fast ? Any experience out there?

H4895 is a great powder for gas operated guns as it produces large volumes of gas. I'd start around 28.8gr for the 200gr boolit and around 26.7gr for the 245gr and work up or down as required to just cycle the action and lock back the bolt.

I do the same in my AR-15 class rounds, and found that I can cycle the action with relatively small charges of H4895. According to Hodgdon the loads I listed above are safe downloaded as much as I listed, and without filler. Some find they have better accuracy using filler but I do not use any.

I do not, those aren't my loads, Hodgdon says you can download to 60% of max loads, that is what I have done here. It has worked well for me in my AR-15 loads, still cycled at the 60% level. I simply took 60% of the max loads Hodgdon lists for those weights. It is a good place to start and safe.
