When Bella dog and I go on our 11km circuit of the forest running we frequently see rabbits, hares and quail. Every time Bella sees a bunny she takes over after it barking fit to beat the band but the rabbits are always too smart. I swore she couldn't catch a cold let alone a rabbit and was dumb as a sack of hammers........until today:

At about the 9km mark she took off and I paid no attention. I stopped to call her and saw her shaking a 3/4 rabbit. I was proud enough to burst. After popping the rabbits neck to finish it off I carried it out the balance of the run. Threw my stride and pace a bit...... Got some funny looks from other users of the forest too. Now THAT was funny.

Whats a 3/4 rabbit? I might be missing something on it.

"Look, Dad, I did my job! Aren't you proud of me?"

That's the way it should be with a dog. Too many are kept cooped up and frustrated....

I had a mature female bassett for a long time. Best dog I ever knew and the sweetest soul ever. My evening routine for a long time was to walk out the front door and go bowfisihing on my lake here and she would accompany me. We'd almost always kick up a rabbit or two and when she was relatively spry, she would try for all her might to catch one. Funny as all get out, she'd make these little frustrated whimpers while she ran. Each year, she'd get a little slower and less enthusiastic about them until the last year or two she'd just stand there and watch thinking "yeah, there goes a rabbit". I had always meant to take here out somewhere I could carry a shotgun and slow one up for her, but I honestly don't think she would have hurt one if she'd caught it.

Nice one Jeff. She's beautiful. I just got a new pup again recently (miniature schnauzer). Should have done it years ago :-)
