Just picked up a Old Model Blackhawk in 30 Carbine. 7.5 barrel. Anyone have advice on a good boolit mold for it? Pet load?

Thanks in advance.

32-20 brass trimmed back to length the rcbs 32-98 gr rnfp and 3.5 grs of 70-x.

When I had mine, I loaded 11 - 12 grs of AA#9 with a short jacket 100 grain bullet. Shot very well and LOUD!!!!!! no extraction problems.

I have an OM Blackhawk and shoot an RCBS 115gr GC boolit that is very accurate. I don't remember the mold number or the load data but can look tomorrow. This gun is great fun to shoot. My 11 year old grandson just discovered that he likes to shoot it as well, thank goodness I recently acquired a large quantity of carbine brass, so I can keep us in loaded ammo.

That mold is probably the RCBS 32-115-FN.
If you are looking in the Midway catalog, you will find it listed with "specialty rifle bullet molds".

It has worked well in 30-30, and 30-06 for light loads for practice and fun. One of my friends likes it in his Ruger carbine revolver, a lot. Dusty

I have 2 molds, a Lee C309-120 R and a SAECO plain based mold. The Lee mold drops at about 115 grains and the SAECO at about 110 grains. I tried playing with loads to quiet the bark of the BH but nothing helped. The 30 BH is loud!

Of late, I have been loading 13 gr of 4227 which cycles the carbine well and of course shoots well through the pistol. The only issue I've ever really had was keeping the brass trimmed to length so they chamber in the cylinder. The carbine isn't as picky. Once the brass is trimmed I have another coffee can of brass to load up. The only other thing I want to try is buckshot round ball pinker loads over some Bullseye powder.

Run5run, your talking about 700-x right? That has peaked my interests. I have roughly 16lbs of it from my 45acp days. Ever play with it in 30 Carbine cases? I have been stockpiling 30 Carbine brass for a while.

fcvan, I'm going to give that Lee mold a try. I've heard the stories about the 30 BH being loud. The "Crazy" in me wanted it for just that reason!! :p

yeah short stroked the other zero.
the same load in the carbine cases works exactly the same.
it's accurate, deceptivly flat shooting, and pretty quiet.
you can use any regular 32-20 data in the 30 carbine and be okay.

loud is an understatement.
the only thing i have that is louder is my 375 supermag when it's stoked up to max [i wear both plugs and muffs when shooting it]

+3 on the loud. I was running 5 grains of Unique under the RCBS 32-98 SWC for a more enjoyable shooting experience. The full bore 2400 and H 110 loads were simply too much noise to suit me. One of the few guns I sold or traded off that I really don't want to get again.

SAECO 311-95 SWC works great in my OM 30 Carbine BH. Also the old Lyman 311419 and 311359 if you want gas checks. Use 32/20 data and you will be fine. GI ammo clocked 1650 fps from my BH

Here is an update on my 30Carbine Boolit and load. The mold is an RCBS 30-115sp and my load is 6.5gr Unique and a small pistol primer, average velocity is 1340fps. I've owned this mold since the late 70's and it shoots good in the carbine.

Here is a group buy going on right now that I started specifically for the 30 Carbine and the 32-20.

I have this mold in a single cavity Lyman HPPB.

Try 9.0 gr SR4759, a bunch quieter, shoots good and is devastating on furry varmints.

I use the Lee 309-113 FN GC and LEE 309-120 RN GC (Car Red or BAC lube), in my 30 M1 BH with great results using H-110, also had good results with LEE 311-93 (50/50 lube) with a small charge of Red Dot. I have used the 113 & 120 without gas checks lubed with CAR RED with a full case of Trailboss and 3.5 ish gr of RedDot and they worked fine as well. My (8) yr old daughter shoots the 93 gr load quite well.
