Of course I know the power limitations of the round and I would chose my shots accordingly, but given that what boolit would you choose? The gun is a 1911. I'm inclined to chose one of the 68 clone 200 swc for accuracy alone, but would prefer either a heavier large meplat or an expanding HP type boolit. Are there any other boolits that approach the 68swc in accuracy that would be more appropriate for the occasional whitetail?
Thanks to all for any responses

Thanks for the link Hickory, that one looks promising. Anyone have feedback on this bullet out of a 1911? What kind of accuracy have you squeezed out of it?
Any other suggestions with some accuracy reports?
Thanks again

Also does anyone know if there are any other HP or WFN designs that allow head spacing on the bullet driving band similar to the hg 68 that will feed in a 1911? Preferably a brass or steel mold

Here are some expansion samples of that NOE 230gr hp(small cavity) out of my 1911, though .45acp, it would work better in your caliber. My alloy is soft range lead with some pure added , about 9- 10bhn average, into a dirt berm(small rocks and heavy black dirt), most went about 12" deep.

As far as accuracy, it has been mixed. My 1911 wasn't exactly loving them for some reason though I think I went too soft for it (it's done that with other bullets also). Initially I was testing these out of my XDM 45 and it shot them really good,(2.5" group @25yrds) because I was going to carry that gun for a backup hunting sidearm. I do have a small batch cast up with a harder alloy to see how they do out of the 1911, but cold weather came and just haven't done much play'in, plus I have a few more powders to try on the softer samples.

PS. I had these loaded at max , for hunting purposes, so that could also account for something with the 1911.
I am hoping to get a mold for my .40Super barrel also with a WFN, so I can quit using the J words, these are nice conversions.

Those look like they've expanded nice but retained the base for good penetration, very nice. I'd probably be using ww so with a bit more velocity hopefully they'd look similar. What sort of accuracy are you getting with them?

See above, took me some time to type.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I was just browsing ballisti casts sight and noticed they have some "special heavy" versions of the 668, they look interesting too, but no HP.

I was thinking about hunting this year with my .45 ACP and the Lee 452-255 SWC over 5.4 grains of Unique. It fed well, was accurate and a real thumper. YOu could bump it up some for .45 super

Having similar thoughts (though not with a Super) I just placed an order for an Accurate Molds 45-230-F. Tom designed this one to be something of an auto-friendly improvement over Keith's Lyman 452423 / HG-502 (or possibly 46) that started me having thoughts of such a thing. The Accurate has a .30" meplat (the original Keith was .34" if I remember right), a slight WC shoulder, and a nice contour that approximates a GI hardball profile. Really looking forward to this one!
