I have a 4500 Lyman sizer. I use Orange Magic lube. Everything is working fine and then all of a sudden I have a big glob of lube come in under the bullet. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Rich

sounds like to much pressure on the lube to me.I get that with my RCBS lubber with to much lube pressure.

I have been using my Lyman 4500 for over a year. I still get globs from too much pressure. It gets boring and you just ratchet the wrench a couple notches too much and there it is. Just technique that I presume takes a long time to learn. Of course the viscosity of different lubes makes it even harder. I haven't settled on one lube yet.

It could also be a bad base on the boolit or failure to keep downward pressure on the operating handle while you pressurize the lube ratchet.

Adjust ya boolit up a little at the time until ya can`t fill the grooves then back down until ya just can .

You also may need a little heat , it`ll make the lube easier to work with & ya can back the pressure off .

I purchased a fine toothed 1/4" ratcheting wrench & give it 1 click per boolit .

I use Carnauba Red & heat it to 90f before starting , temp read at the die housing.

As already mentioned, too much pressure and possibly too much heat (from the plug in heater). Orange Magic is a hard lube that often needs to be warmed up to flow. Regulating the temp. was the biggest and messiest problem I had with it in my Ly. #450.

Make sure you are firmly bottoming out the bullet in the die, then click the ratchet a couple clicks if necessary. Only enough pressure and heat to ensure the grooves fill.

Thanks guys!!! I was applying too much heat to much pressure.

What fishman said - only apply pressure when the boolit is in position to take lube.
And too hot can definitely provoke this, too.
